Chicago Fire Department paramedics were already in the area for a personal injury crash and called out an alert for help from police when shot were fired — possibly aimed at the paramedics or the victims the paramedics were treating at the crash. Updated victim list (GSW list/no names) listed below.

The first crews on arrival found six to eight people shot near 63rd Street and Artesian Avenue, just to the west of Western Avenue. Chicago Fire Department Battalion 6 was initially in command of the scene.

An EMS Plan 2 was requested on orders of 4-4-12 by 11:01 p.m. A total of about 10 ambulances were dispatched with the EMS Plan 2.

Most of the victims were on Artesian Avenue north of 63rd Street lying on the side of the street between the alley and the street. Several victims were transported with life-threatening injuries to area hospitals. CPR was administered to at least one of the shooting victims.

A pregnant female was also reported shot.

Offenders shot into the crowd and ran eastbound from Artesian Avenue toward Western Avenue. An AK-47 type weapon or rifle may have been used in Sunday night’s shooting.

The shooting is near the neighborhoods of Chicago Lawn, Gages Park, West Englewood and West Lawn. Shooting victims were located in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, which is also known as the Marquette Park area — named after the large park in the neighborhood.
