Police and firefighter/paramedics from Elk Grove Village responded about 4:23 p.m. Friday July 31, 2020 to a report of a semi-trailer truck that was leaking diesel fuel and was stopped at Lively Boulevard and Arthur Avenue in Elk Grove Village .
Police and firefighter/paramedics discovered a trail of diesel fuel along Arthur Avenue from just west of Busse Road to Lively Boulevard.
Firefighters used OIL-DRI or another absorbent to cover the diesel fuel that leaked onto Arthur Avenue. An Elk Grove HazMat squad “HazMat 8” also responded to the scene.
Elk Grove Village Fire Battalion 2 reported a large spill along Arthur Avenue from Busse Road to Lively Boulevard. The scene was centered in front of 1200 Arthur Avenue.
Apparently the truck dragged a boulder that it picked up near Busse and Arthur, possibly wedged under the saddle tank. Fuel leaked until the fuel level was below the hole in the tank.
Elk Grove Village fire command reported there was no leak into any water or storm sewer systems. A private specialty business was assigned to cleanup the spill.
