Chicago Bears Fire Lovie Smith

The Bears fired Head Coach Lovie Smith on Monday after a 10-6 season, The Chicago Bears started 7-1 but ended the season 10-6 after beating the Detroit Lions.

Smith took the head coach job in 2004, and since then the Chicago Bears have ranked near the bottom at offense.

Lovie Smith’s stubborn mantra in the 2006-2007 season “Rex is our quarterback,” had come to haunt him with fans. At Super Bowl XLI on February 4, 2007, manly Bears fans lined up at the urinals during the end of the third quarter and chanted “Rex is our quarterback” zipped up their pants and left in disgust. The cycle repeated with the next man in line repeating the same thing … “Rex is our quarterback.” People were still mocking that phrase — even in 2012, as things went sour this season.

Smith’s defense brought the Bears to their first Super Bowl appearance since Super Bowl XX — 21 years prior.
