The Weather Channel (TWC) is a United States cable and satellite television network operating since May 2, 1982, that broadcasts weather forecasts and weather-related news, along with entertainment programming related to weather 24 hours a day. The Weather Channel also provides forecasts for terrestrial and satellite radio stations, newspapers, and websites, and maintains an extensive online presence at

On-air staff frequently travel to areas of breaking weather news, such as tornado incidents, hurricanes, winter storms, and flooding incidents.

The Weather Channel was founded in 1981 by meteorologist and former Chicago weather personality John Coleman and Frank Batten.

Local on the 8s or Local Forecast is the portion of programming when viewers see current weather conditions, radar, and local weather forecasts for their respective area on The Weather Channel in the United States. The name comes from the timing of the segment, as the times it airs end in "8" ( 9:18, 9:28, etc.). "Local on the 8s" airs in ten minute intervals.
