The news blog was founded on September 12, 2001 as part of Arlingtoncards.com, which was founded in 1999. CARDINAL NEWS (also commonly known as “The Cardinal” or “Arlington Cardinal”) provides mostly short news stories with original content, original video, and original photos. CARDINAL NEWS also functions as a news aggregation website with video, feeds, summaries and links to other news sources from Chicagoland and around the world.

The Cardinal names and information services identities for CARDINAL NEWS are inspired by …

1) the bird species Cardinalis Cardinalis “Northern Cardinal” and the bird’s aesthetics and the bird’s symbol of divine presence, love, and comfort during times of grief;

2) the adjective meaning of greatest importance and fundamental concepts, which predominantly consists of risk reduction and decision-making by citizen effectively informed by quality news);

3) Cardinal Virtues (Prudence, Justice, Fortitude, and Temperance); and

4) Cardinal Directions, referring to geospatial awareness (recognition and awareness your hyperlocal earthly location: North, East, West, South), and equally important complete situational awareness, cognitive fitness, physical fitness and wellness, that includes grounding, earthing “touching grass” and understanding physical being with qi energy flow (awareness of electrical flow or gravitational force).

MOBILE
The Cardinal added the option for a mobile design in October 2015. Smartphone browsers will automatically open Arlingtoncardinal.com in mobile format; however there was a command link for “Desktop” at the bottom of every page and article. Users could choose “Desktop” to view traditional desktop computer view on a smartphone. Currently, mobile users can view the desktop layout simply by turning their mobile device sideways to “landscape mode” instead of “vertical mode.”

The row of menus at the very top of every page are also available from the 3-line icon (also known as the Hamburger Menu) in the upper left corner in mobile format. The menus are very helpful for browsing news and directory information for Arlington Heights and beyond.
