Then-Senator Barack Obama and candidate for presidency claims on November 21, 2007 that he is uniquely qualified to bring stability to America’s relationships in the Muslim world because he lived in an Islamic country during his youth and because his half-sister is Muslim. He claimed he truly believed that the day he is inaugurated is the day the country looks at itself differently and the world looks at the U.S. differently because when he reaches out to the Muslim world, Muslims will understand that he’s lived in a Muslim country.

As protests rage across the Middle East and Africa, a controversy exist in the United States over the real importance of a movie trailer published on YouTube. The White House is focusing on the movie as the cause of the unrest. Obama opponents are explain it President Barack Obama’s foreign policy that is at fault.

I may be a Christian, but I understand their point of view … our future and our security is tied up with our ability to work with other countries in the world that will ultimately make us safer.

Egyptian riot police clashed with hundreds of protesters blocks away from the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, leading to the death of one protester. Meanwhile in Alexandria protesters near the US consulate clashed with police there.

Several dozen protesters briefly stormed the US Embassy compound in Tunisia’s capital, setting fire to cars and raising a flag with the Muslim profession of faith on it as part of demonstrations against an anti-Muslim film.

In addition to attacking U.S. embassies in the Middle East and Africa, rioters attacked a Hardee’s and a KFC in Tripoli. About 20 countries have experienced unrest of some type that is allegedly connected with a YouTube movie trailer that has insulted Muslim protesters.

On Friday the U.S. State Department reported that it has activated a 24-hr monitoring team to insure appropriate coordination of information and our response. In addition, the U.S. State Department’s consular team is working with missions around the world to protect American citizens and issue appropriate public warden information.

The state department official noted that U.S. embassies in Libya and Yemen have been reinforced with Marine FAST teams and noted that other unspecified measures are being taken to strengthen embassy security in the Middle East and Africa.

The U.S. Embassy in Tunis was invaded by rioters who took down the American flag and replaced it with the black banner of al Qaeda. U.S. embassies in Libya and Yemen have been reinforced with Marine FAST teams.

The Marine FAST teams are assigned only to protect American citizens and property not engage in conflict with any enemy.

In the United States …
A bomb threat at the University of Texas — Austin claimed to come from a man belonging to al-Qaida.

The White House has said that the protests are not directed at the United States, and James Carney told reporters, “We’re very proud of the president’s record on foreign policy and are happy to make the case at the appropriate time.”

The caller claimed bombs placed throughout the Austin campus would go off in 90 minutes, but administrators waited more than an hour before blaring sirens on the campus of 50,000 students and telling them to immediately “get as far away as possible” in emergency text messages.

The threats were cleared as false alarms, but many people worried the alerts were not activated quickly enough. Outdoor disaster sirens wailed on the Austin campus and cellphones received text messages. Police blocked off all roads heading into campus as lines of cars waited in gridlock trying to get off campus. Business nearby the campus were crowded with the evacuated students who had to huddle under awning and overhangs to avoid getting drenched in rain that was falling.

North Dakota State University evacuated 20,000 people were the school’s main campus and downtown campus in Fargo after the school received a bomb threat Friday morning. Less details were available from North Dakota State University administrators.

YouTube content warning that precedes display of the Muhammad Movie Trailer by “Sam Bacile” who has been identified as Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a 55-year-old Egyptian Coptic Christian and convicted felon.

A controversy has developed as the White House emphasizes the attacks are based on the video “Innocence of Muslims”, and not U.S. policy. Ample evidence from multiple intelligence sources has reported that the attack on the Libyan embassy was planned days in advance of the flare-up from the “Innocence of Muslims” film trailer, which has been posted on YouTube since July 2, 2012. As of early morning September 15, 2012 the trailer had 3,016,368 views with 11,563 likes and 47,465 dislikes.

YouTube stats for “Innocence of Muslims” film trailer or “Muhammad Movie Trailer” showing spike of views about September 12, 2012.

The video trailer views skyrocketed after the Middle East protests began. An entire new investigation is developing regarding the identity of “Sam Bacile” — now believed to be Nakoula Basseley Nakoula — and who were all the players that marketed the movie trailer to the Middle East and Africa and who were the players that framed it as the cause of the protests (See also PBS.org How ‘Sam Bacile’ Bamboozled the AP, Wall Street Journal Over Anti-Muslim Film).

VIDEO at Michigan Avenue and Cermak Road, and at Michigan Avenue and 21st Street where police clashed with protesters and arrested protesters Sunday afternoon.

After a rally and protest March, NATO protesters marched down Michigan Avenue with anti-war banners, anti-Capitalism banners and ‘Free Bradley Manning’ banners. Some marchers warned of loss of freedom and pointed to the police as signs that facism and oppression have come to the United States. The rally was scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, but was delayed. There were occasional scuffles of Black Bloc members with police along the march route, but mostly the march was peaceful.

The protest march was stopped at Michigan Avenue and Cermak Road, where police were determined to keep protesters from getting any closer to the NATO Summit venue at McCormick Place. Veterans, conscientious objectors and military deserters spoke of being ashamed of the imperialism of the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan. About a dozen veterans stood on a flatbed truck and spoke against the military and against war on a public address system; and tossed their medals into a lot on the southeast corner in the direction of McCormick Place. A group of anarchists with their signature flags and symbols filled the intersection, along with other protesters. When the mostly peaceful assembly was completed, police moved in to disperse the crowd.

Police requested that the crowd disperse, and did not waste any time sending the crowd west on Cermak Road from Michigan Avenue. Police officers on horses blocked eastbound Cermak Road from Michigan Avenue. Chicago Police Chief Garry McCarthy stood in front of the a flank of officers that were blocking any eastbound pedestrian traffic on Cermak. Some protesters sat in the street while hundreds of police officers in riot gear from the Chicago Police Department and the Illinois State Police moved toward the crowded intersection — walking southbound on Michigan Avenue to Cermak Road. Hundreds more police officers were also waiting on Wabash near Cermak — the next block west of Michigan Avenue. The clash occurred when some protesters insisted on moving east on Cermack Road toward McCormick Place.

The Chicago Police Department has acted professionally and with restraint as protesters refused to disperse.

– Spokesman for the Mayor’s Office

Just before the clash, police were after a Black Bloc member, who was arrested on Michigan Avenue between Cermak Road and 21st Street; but it was unknown why he was wanted. He was loaded into a police vehicle, while many other protesters arrested were loaded onto CTA buses.

Two police vehicles with LRAD devices (Long Range Acoustic Devices) and an Acoustic Hailing Device also moved into the area, but were not used, except to make announcements. The LRAD trucks followed police throughout the night when large crowds appeared closer to the loop. LRAD trucks can be used to make long range announcements (acoustic hailing device) or can be used as a sonic weapon. By the end of the day about 45 protesters were arrested and detained at a police station at Belmont and Western. At least four police officers were injured and several protesters were injured.

Paramedics and national news crews were also staged at Wabash and Cermak. Police effectively barricaded blocks of the area from any southbound pedestrian traffic after the clash. Hundreds of police also protected a Dairy Queen at Wabash and Cermak. Several business owners and agents watch calmly in the interest of their businesses. Agents of Tommy Gun’s Garage, 2114 South Wabash, watched their property while dressed in their roaring 20′s Chicago gangster attire.

Mobile response teams countered any conflicts with protesters as they dispersed. Some Chicago residents clashed with with protesters, calling them ‘weirdos’ and telling them to get out of the city. Protesters replied by getting out their cameras and warning that they will expose the Chicagoans on YouTube.

Police observing with helicopters and cameras on city corners were able to quickly identify disturbance. The response teams arrived within seconds or minutes of any crowds that developed on city streets. At least three helicopters patrolled the streets from the skies. A very mobile police force would respond on bicycles, white vans or marked and unmarked police vehicles. Police in CTA buses were also ready to be deployed to any disturbances involving large crowds.

Chicago Fire Department EMS crews also responded to incidents using bikes, rescue ambulances, or white vans. The vehicles were constantly on the move in the two-three hours following the clash, and as protesters dispersed north and west.

Later in the night police clashed with protesters at VanBuren Street and Wabash Avenue, near Boeing’s headquarters, on Michigan Avenue near The Art Institute of Chicago, and at other locations near the loop. Police were also determined to keep protesters from traveling north of the Chicago River along Wacker Drive. Garbage trucks and large snow plow trucks blocked strategic streets and alleys. In preparation, all garbage receptacles across the city were removed, apparently to prevent them from being used to start fires or to prevent them from being tossed to cause criminal damage to property.

Thousands marched Chicago on May Day in what will likely be a busy month in the windy city. The NATO Summit is set to take place on May 20-21st and attract 10,000 attendees, as well as scores of protestors from around the world.

Former 60′s anti-war activist William “Bill” Ayers was among those protesting in Chicago on Tuesday in a march that passed the site of the Haymarket Massacre in 1886. Ayers is a retired professor of education reform at the University of Illinois at Chicago and author of multiple books, including “Fugitive Days: Memoirs of an Anti-War Activist.” He co-founded the Weather Underground, a self-described communist revolutionary group that conducted a campaign of bombing public buildings during the 1960s and 1970s. Ayers was involved in the bombings of New York City Police Department headquarters in 1970, the United States Capitol building in 1971, and the Pentagon in 1972, as he reported in his 2001 book, Fugitive Days. Ayers was a fugitive, but charges against him were dropped in 1974. He is the son of Thomas G. Ayers, who was Chairman and CEO of Commonwealth Edison from 1973 to 1980.

Federal security patrols and protesters are expected to start showing up on the streets of Chicago on Tuesday, May 1, 2012.

‘May Day’ protests will begin coincidentally as security in the Loop increases in the “Red Zone” — an area bounded by Adams Street, States Street, Harrison Street and Franklin Street.

Starting Tuesday, law enforcement officers –some armed with non-lethal weapons — begin patrolling several blocks in the Loop. They will be highly visible in the so-called Red Zone, where many government offices are located.

May 1st is recognized worldwide as International Workers’ Day, a day that marks a celebration of the labor movement and left-wing orientation in response to the Haymarket Massacre of 1886 in Chicago. In Chicago in 1886 workers fought for the establishment of worker protection measures — especially the eight hour workday. An unknown person threw dynamite at police as they dispersed a public assembly. In response, the Chicago police fired on the workers. Dozens of demonstrators and several police officers were killed in crossfire.

Anarchists were suspected of murdering Chicago police officer Mathias J. Degan, who was killed by the bomb blast. Eventually seven anarchists were sentenced to death and one anarchist was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Two sentences were commuted and one of the convicted men committed suicide the night before the execution by blowing his face off with a dynamite cap that was smuggled into jail. Four were hanged on November 11, 1887.

In the United States Labor Day is designated in September to avoid association with International Workers’ Day and Anarchist movements.

Chicago residents and owners of the Library Tower condo building — a 17-story building at 520 South State Street (between Congress and Harrison) — are being advised to leave their residence and live at an alternate site during the NATO Summit from May 19 through May 21, 2012.

Letter to Library Tower Owners and residents from Property Manager

You may be aware that Chicago will be hosting the 2012 NATO Summit May 19th through May 21st. During the Summit there will be multiple street closures and rerouted and canceled buses and trains. We are being told the final information will probably not be released by the Secret Service until days before the Summit. We do know the City has approved a protest route on Sunday May 20th that would begin with a rally at Petrillo Band Shell and skirt the Loop as protesters head west on Jackson, south on State Street, east on Harrison and south on Michigan Avenue to McCormick Place. Given past protest in other cities and the potential for violence and damage, we are advising all residents that the Association is making the following recommendation and taking the following precautions:

We are STRONGLY recommending that all residents find alternative places to stay during the conference from May 18th through May 21st

We are also STRONGLY recommending that you don not have any guests over during this time including dog walkers and cleaning companies. Access to the area and the building will be VERY LIMITED.

The City of Chicago approved protest route is currently scheduled to take place on Sunday from the Petrillo Band Shell in Grand Park past Library Tower on State Street to McCormick place. The date and exact time the protesters are expected to arrive are not yet determined.

There will be two armed off duty police officer in the building to help ensure everyone’s safety.

The revolving door will locked on Friday morning. Key FOBs will be required to enter the building and all residents will be required to show identification to these officers when entering the building. Please have a photo ID readily available to access the building.

The rear exit into the alley will be restricted to emergency egress only. Residents will be required to enter the building from State Street or the garage.

There will be absolutely no deliveries or moves permitted between Friday, May 18th and Monday, May 21st.

There will be NUMEROUS street closures around the building, which will inhibit the entrance and exit of the building from the garage.

In the event of a riot or the potential of one near the building, all access doors will be locked in including the garage door. For everyone’s safety we will be instructing anyone in the building to stay in his or her unit.

The Park will be closed and locked between Friday morning, May 18th and Monday evening, May 21st.

The Roof Top Terrace, THeater Room and Hospitality Suite will be closed Friday morning through Monday evening.

A member or members of the Management Staff will be on site during the dates of the Summit …

GRAPHIC LANGUAGE: Video from WEARECHANGE.ORG at Occupy Wall Street at Zuccotti Park in New York City show a lot of chaos, drama and a woman with a seizure; but no injuries were reported by police.

Occupy Wall Street protesters claim they were just talking in the park, but NYPD officers stopped the gathering when park rules were broken as protesters started setting up tents and tarps.

Protesters claim police suddenly moved in with brutality, and video shows one female protester down on the ground having a seizure. Over six minutes passed without any arrival of an ambulance captured on video. If the videographer was still there when the ambulance did arrive, he chose not to publish it. The videographer was also interacting with police and provided commentary with a high ratio of f-bombs in his sentences.

Over 70 people were detained by the end of the protest. Some of the protester consider themselves anarchists.

The Occupy Wall Street movement started about September 17, 2011. March 17, 2012 marks a six-month anniversary with a promise to pick up momentum by the protesters.

Zuccotti Park, formerly called Liberty Plaza Park, is a 33,000-square-foot publicly accessible park on private property in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Zuccotti Park is a Privately-Owned-Public-Space (POPS) controlled by Brookfield Properties. The park’s namesake is Brookfield Office Properties’ company chairman John Zuccotti. Some of the protesters display placards that welcome visitors to “Liberty Park.” The park is popular with local tourists and financial workers.

The park’s northwest corner is across the street from Four World Trade Center.

At the request of the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police, the City of Chicago has purchased over $190,000 in state-of-the-art helmet shields in anticipation of protests related to the combined summit schedules of G-8 and NATO. The only other time the summits have met simultaneously was in London in 1977.

Police are concerned with officers being hit with bags of urine, feces, other toxic substances, Molotov cocktails, and return throws of tear gas canisters, etc.

The Chicago Fraternal Order of Police is blaming the City of Chicago for problems related to last minute planning. The FOP serves a community of over 17,000 police officers. On the street, at least some police are concerned about having fire-resistant uniforms and adequate numbers of gas masks and helmets with face masks. Some believe European police handling riots are better-equipped.

The G-8 Summit is scheduled for May 19-20, 2012.
The NATO Summit is scheduled for May 15-22, 2012.

The G-20 Summit is scheduled for June 2012 in Los Cabos, Mexico.

In 1999 thousands of activists converged in Seattle, Washington to protest the WTO Ministerial Conference of 1999.

Protester offers some insight into what motivates the upcoming protests planned for the G-8 and NATO summits — “Banksters and Warmongers.”

Gay Liberation Network and protest organizer Andy Thayer: “We’re going to have an assemblage of the biggest ‘banksters’ and warmongers on the planet right here in Chicago in May this year … Thayer also criticizes the United States for not having free higher education, no free health care, an no guaranteed housing.”

Thayer in Arlington Heights in August 2010 criticized Arlington Heights as “not the exactly the most liberally-minded town” projecting his opinion of the Village of Arlington Heights based upon a seminar that was held at Christian Liberty Academy.

Oakland “will not be bullied by threats of violence or illegal activity. … Breaking into buildings, assaulting police officers, provoking confrontations and vandalizing property are tactics that are counterproductive and divide our community. They drain scarce city resources away from the neighborhoods in greatest need. Oakland deserves better.”

Oakland, CA – By 12 pm, a crowd of approximately 250 had gathered in Frank Ogawa Plaza for the Occupy rally. Just before 1:30 pm, the group started marching southbound on Broadway. As the group of approximately 450 marched, traffic disruptions occurred on downtown streets. At approximately 2:15 pm, some of the marchers entered the campus of Laney College.

At 2:30 pm, marchers began tearing down perimeter fences around the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center. At approximately 2:50 pm, the first dispersal order was given as the crowd began destroying construction equipment and fencing. Officers were pelted with bottles, metal pipe, rocks, spray cans, improvised explosive devices and burning flares. Oakland Police Department deployed smoke and tear gas.
By 4 pm, the bulk of the Occupy crowd of approximately 500 has returned to Frank Ogawa Plaza.

As of this release, 19 protesters have been arrested. Most of the arrests were made on Oak Street when protesters ignored the dispersal order and assaulted officers. Three officers are confirmed to have been injured.
Mutual aid has been requested.

8:30 p.m. Update from the City of Oakland …

Oakland, CA – At an 8:30 pm press briefing, Oakland officials provided updates on the Occupy activities in downtown Oakland.

“Once again, a violent splinter group of the Occupy Movement is engaging in violent actions against Oakland,” said Oakland Mayor Jean Quan. “The Bay Area Occupy Movement has got to stop using Oakland as their playground.”

Earlier today protesters unsuccessfully attempted to break into the historic Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center, they charged a skirmish line at Oak Street and pelted officers with bottles, metal pipe, rocks, spray cans, improvised explosive devices and burning flares. Oakland Police Department deployed smoke, tear gas and beanbag projectiles.

By 4 pm, an Occupy crowd of approximately 300 had returned to Frank Ogawa Plaza. After a brief respite, the group returned to the streets and marched through downtown Oakland.

After ignoring a dispersal order, at approximately 6:30 pm, the arrest protesters invaded the YMCA and were arrested.

Simultaneously, a different group of protesters burnt an American flag in front of Oakland City Hall before breaking into the historic building. Damage to exhibits has been reported. Officers will be making arrests onsite. “There is no excuse for the behavior we experienced this evening,” said Council President Larry Reid when responding to an inquiry about damage to City Hall.

“From their own posts and their letter to the Mayor and City Council, the demonstrators’ stated intention was to provoke the police and engage in illegal activity,” said City Administrator Deanna J. Santana.
As of this release, the total arrests are estimated at 200. Three police officers and one protester have been injured and three private vehicles have been vandalized.

The City of Oakland has received mutual aid from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and the cities of Fremont, Hayward, Berkeley, Pleasanton and Union City/Newark.

+++++

The Occupy Oakland group is continuing The Oakland Rise-up Festival on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Oscar Grant Plaza. With seminars, basically, on how to protest.

Protesters staged occupations across the United States this morning as part of a coast-to-coast day of action aimed to shut down shipping ports all over the US. Starting in the early morning hours, demonstrators waged protests up and down the West Coast in one of the most wide-impact attacks on the one percent yet. Ali Winston, Ramon Galindo and Lucy Kafanov weigh in from California and DC to discuss the events of the day.

In New York, protester carried a giant squid float in reference to a 2009 article by a Rolling Stone writer, Matt Taibbi, in which he described the bank as “a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money.”

Occupy Wall Street on the Waterfront …
Ports on the target list of protesters include Anchorage, Vancouver, Tacoma, Seattle, Longview, Portland, Oakland, Los Angeles, Port Hueneme, San Diego, and Maui.

RT correspondent Kaelyn Forde and cameraman Jon Conway were arrested over the weekend filming a demonstration against the SOA in Fort Benning, GA. Police are still considering another charge against them, for allegedly failing to obey officers’ instructions.
Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHISC or WHINSEC), formerly the United States Army School of the Americas (USARSA or SOA; Spanish: Escuela de las Américas) is a United States Department of Defense educational and training facility in Fort Benning near Columbus, Georgia. Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation is established by the US government to teach law enforcement and military techniques to US allies in the rest of the Americas. Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation has been criticized for training Latin American dictators and their militaries in various techniques to quell dissidence in their countries.

According to the official website of SOA Watch http://www.soaw.org, SOA Watch is an independent organization that seeks to close the US Army School of the Americas, under whatever name it is called, through vigils and fasts, demonstrations and nonviolent protest, as well as media and legislative work.

Occupy Wall Street protesters interrupted a foreign policy speech by Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, saying she was more concerned with dividing Americans than helping them.

A Michele Bachmann speech was interrupted by Occupy Wall Street protesters while speaking on foreign policy during an event in South Carolina on Thursday.

During the Occupy trademark amplified one-to-many chants, Michelle Bachmann stood and listened, but was later escorted off the stage. Bachmann supporters shouted down with protesters, shouting “Michelle” while police asked Michelle Bachmann to exit the podium to the right.

Occupy Charleston protesters accused Bachmann of “dividing Americans”, promoting discrimination and representing the 1%.

Police in riot gear dispersed about 2,000 Penn State students who took to the streets after the ouster of football coach Joe Paterno. Crowds toppled a television news van and at least one photographer was pelted with a rock.

Crazed Penn State students were confronted by police in riot gear Wednesday night after the students took to the streets to protest the firing of football coach Joe Paterno.

The crowds tipped over a CBS News central Pennsylvania affiliate (WTAJ). Apparently there were no injuries during the tipping of the van, but one news photographer was injured when he was hit by a rock.

Paterno announced on Wednesday that he planned to retire after the season and said he felt remorse for not having done more after he learned of the sex assault allegations.

Paterno and university President Graham Spanier were fired by the State College Board of Trustees after news of their failure to properly manage of sex abuse allegations against a former assistant football coach, Jerry Sandusky. The assistant coach maintains he is innocent while he faces 40 criminal counts related to the molestation of eight young boys between 1994 and 2009.

An Iraq War veteran, Scott Olsen, was critically injured by a projectile that struck him in the head during the chaotic conflict between police and protestors in Oakland Tuesday. It’s unclear what the object was or who threw it.

Olsen, 24, was unconscious after being struck in the head by an unknown projectile at the intersection of 14th and Broadway streets, when several protesters attempted to carry him away from danger. As fellow protesters were getting ready to lift Olsen, an officer wearing what appears to be a black sheriff’s department uniform, stepped back from a police barricade and tossed an incendiary tear gas canister directly at the protesters and Olsen. The explosion scattered those who were attempting to help Olsen.

Friends say the veteran, originally from Wisconsin, suffered a two-inch skull fracture on the left side of his head with resulting brain swelling. Olsen was reported be unconscious on a respirator.
