The following video was not released by the Arlington Heights Fire Department, and is not related to the Village of Arlington Heights in any way. The video was released by the Rapid City (South Dakota) Police Department.

WARNING GRAPHIC VIDEO BELOW. The video displays an incident that starts seconds after a witnessed cardiac arrest that occurred while a passenger was stricken in a vehicle. A police car with a dash cam happened to be immediately behind the stopped vehicle with the stricken passenger. The video demonstrates the urgency and unexpected nature of such an incident. One of the key problems is that the vehicle pulls over next to a steep parkway. First, the parkway makes it especially challenging to get the victim out of the vehicle. Second, the angle of the victim places the head above the body, making it more difficult for CPR to be effective — pumping blood upward against gravity toward the head, where the brain is most sensitive to lack of oxygen. First responding police officers acted heroically and quickly, and then a nurse arrived and instructed first responders to get the victim level … watch what happens …

WARNING GRAPHIC VIDEO: First responder CPR with AED administered to a passenger of a stopped vehicle.

A Rapid City, South Dakota police officer discovers trouble at the side of the street, August 27, 2011. Officer Kathleen Callery was the first officer on scene, and was quickly joined by Officer Chris Hunt and Officer Michael Frybarger. The trio administered CPR and an AED shock while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. As the officers worked to save Seamans’ life, nurse Laurie Mills drove past the scene. She jumped in to assist the officers, helping to administer chest compressions as medics arrived. EMS took over CPR, and within minutes, Seamans was breathing on his own. Seamans was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital, where he recovered and was released several days later.

Mills was honored for her assistance with the Community Service Award. Chief Allender also awarded Officers Callery, Hunt, and Frybarger with the Life Saving Medal for their swift response. The Life Saving Medal may be given to officers for an act performed in the line of duty that, through disregard of personal safety or prompt and alert action, results in saving a life.

A firefighting video posted from St-Michel generated much criticism for lack of safety during firefighting operations at an apartment fire in January 2013.

Montreal firefighters were working on a 3-alarm fire at the corner of 15th Ave and Crémazie E in St-Michel on Wednesday morning, January 23, 2013. Air temperature outside was a cold -25°C (-13°F). After burning for over an hour, firefighters were told to evacuate the building. Some were trapped on the roof and had to escape to the next building with the help of a ladder. A 17 year old girl died in the blaze and the cause is still unknown.

Saint-Michel is a neighbourhood in the Montreal borough of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension. Its boundaries corresponds to the former city of Ville Saint Michel, which was annexed to Montreal in 1968 — one of the last cities to be merged into Montreal until the 2002 municipal reorganization.

Saint-Michel is home to the headquarters of the world renowned Cirque Du Soleil as well as the Tohu, la Cité des Arts du Cirque and the Complexe environmental Saint-Michel.

A review of comments show criticism, including “hero mentality”, lack of use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, unnecessary venting of the roof, unnecessary exposure to carcinogenic gases and the risk of falling through the roof.

Firefighters became trapped on the roof of the burning building, and used a ladder placed horizontally to travel the gap between two buildings.

The value of fire videos … learning and understanding risks and good judgment for the job.

An explosion at the main headquarters of Mexico’s state-owned oil company in the capital Thursday heavily damaged three floors of the building, sending hundreds into the streets and a large plume of smoke over the skyline.

An explosion at Pemex main headquarters — Mexico’s state-owned oil company in the Mexico City killed 14 people and injured 80 on Thursday. The explosion heavily damaged three floors of the building. Hundreds of people waited in the streets, witness much debris and a large plume of smoke over the skyline.

The building is a 52-story tower owned by Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex. The explosion occurred at the main floor and the mezzanine of the auxiliary building. No confirmation yet whether the explosion was caused by natural gas or a terrorist act.

The building located at Avenida Marina Nacional 329 Col. Huasteca was finished in 1984, and was the tallest building in Mexico City until 2002.

Lack of fire exits cause major death toll after fire Saturday evening, November 24, 2012.

The “cheapest labor in the world” has been involved in 600 factory fire deaths in the last

Faded Glory, Sears, and Disney labels were found at the fire scenes in one or both of these factory fires.

Walmart warned of dangers at at least one of the factories.

Dhaka is a megacity (population 12 million in 2008) and one of the major cities of South Asia — the largest in Bangladesh, and the ninth largest in the world. Dhaka is located on the banks of the Buriganga River.

Bangladesh is a unitary secular parliamentary republic, with an elected parliament called the Jatiyo Sangshad. It is the world’s eighth most populous country and has one of the highest population densities in the world, and is defined as a Next Eleven (N-11) — a country having a high potential of evolving into a status among the largest economies in the 21st century. The ten other countries in the N-11 are Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Turkey, South Korea, and Vietnam.

WXYZ-TV DETROIT: For the past year, Scott Ziegler of the Highland Park Fire Department mounted a camera to his helmet recording amazing footage.

Scott Ziegler used a helmet-cam to capture on-the-job firefighting video in Highland Park, Michigan. The video was recently featured on ABC with John Schriffen reporting on Diane Sawyer’s segment. Ziegler filmed his day job for a full year with a camera mounted on his helmet, showing his view of his crew responding to fires. He works in Highland Park, Mich., near Detroit, where there are a lot of abandoned buildings. His videos give a rare look at what it means to be a firefighter.

Here’s Scott’s video on YouTube …
“2012 a year on my lid, in Highland Park MI”

“2012 a year on my lid, in Highland Park MI” with music by Eminem “Till I Collapse” and some graphic language in lyrics.

The video shows warehouse fires, house fires, car fires, smoky fires, fires at night, fire up close, fires from the end of a hose line, fires, fires from the end of an axe, interior attacks, and crashes. The work is excellent. A lot of helmet cam views are not this steady.

“This video is to show people what it is like to fight fires, and what firefighters across the nation do every day. The more people who realize, the better it will be for our profession.

I put together a bunch of clips from some of the better helmet cam footage I got this year while fighting fires in Highland Park. I had to replace several lens’s and a couple mounts throughout the year, so the camera was not always on my helmet.
All the clips are from my own camera, and they are all real fires. No training fires.
The music is not minem it is obviously Eminems- till I collapse. I was just trying to make it a bit more interesting then just a bunch of clips. I understand some people might not appreciate the music, but hey its my video.

We love doing our job in Highland Park. And we do it often. Our aggressive attack might seem odd to some since most of these are “vacant” homes. But we are here to put fires out and the best way to do that is from the inside. Stay safe brothers…stay low
Check out www.firevideo.net these guys hooked me up and I will be using their camera from now on.”

– Scott Ziegler

Several videos have featured the extra-busy firefighters in the failing economy of the Detroit area.

A man is in custody on suspicion of intentionally starting a fatal five-alarm fire Thursday in a New York City apartment building as part of a domestic dispute with his child’s mother

Wei Chu Wu, 45, is accused of setting his apartment on fire after getting into a fight with his wife. The fire spread quickly to multiple floors. At least 198 firefighters battled the 5-alarm fire for three hours. Investigators believe he set several fires in the apartment, including lighting mattress in a bedroom, and then left the doors open so the blaze would spread faster

A body “burned beyond recognition” on a fourth-floor fire escape.

Chu has been charged Friday with arson, second-degree murder, resisting arrest and attempted assault on a police officer, who suffered a broken hand.

Two civilians and seven firefighters suffered minor injuries.

SOME GRAPHIC LANGUAGE: Fully-involved Cadillac: Not a good idea to stand directly behind a vehicle. The air bag canister can detonate and become a projectile that flies through the rear window.

San Diego Fire Department Engine 19 crew responded to a car fire earlier this month. The video demonstrates where not to stand during a car fire. A female driver of the vehicle walks directly behind the vehicle while it is fully-involved with flames. Air bag canisters can detonate from the fire and fly straight through the rear window of a vehicle. The flying air bag canister becomes a missile with sharp metal that can travel more than 30 yards. Contact with a human being could be deadly.

Thousands of fire fighters were on standby across New South Wales, Australia’s most populous state, where fire authorities said wildfire conditions were at the most severe rating available. All state forests and national parks were closed as a precaution and total fire bans were in place with temperatures expected to reach 113F (45C) in some areas.

A male volunteer firefighter from the NSW Rural Fire Service sustained severe burns to his hands and face while fighting a grass fire at Gundaroo, south-east of Yass. He was airlifted to the Burns Unit at Concord Hospital where he will undergo treatment.

Officials were bracing for winds up to 50mph during firefighting operations, which could fan the flames in unpredictable directions.

Fire and Rescue NSW is the seventh largest urban fire service in the world, with over 6,800 firefighters serving at 339 fire stations throughout the state, 408 support staff, and 6,000 community fire unit volunteers. Fire and Rescue NSW also works closely with the Rural Fire Service.

More than 100 fires were blazing across the state on Tuesday, though only a handful of homes were under threat as of early afternoon.

William Shatner knows firsthand how dangerous turkey fryers can be—so do the firefighters with the Illinois Fire Service Institute, who staged some of the common mistakes, with explosive results.

FIRE, METAL, OIL and TURKEY … and steam, too — a dangerous combination. $15 million in annual U.S. property damage is caused by deep fryer fires. According to the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission more than 141 serious fires and hot-oil burns have been reported from the use of turkey fryers over the last decade.

William Shatner loves deep-fried turkey, but over many Thanksgivings and Christmases he’s made mistakes, burned himself, and nearly burned down his house. In this dramatic retelling, Bill shows us how dangerous turkey fryers can be.

WRONG. Too much oil. Placement too close to the house, or inside a garage.

TURKEY FRYER SAFETY TIPS
• Look for the newer fryers with sealed lids to prevent oil spills.

• Never cook in short sleeves, shorts or bare feet. Cover all bare skin when dunking or removing bird.

• Protect your eyes with goggles or glasses.

• Place the fryer in an open area away from all walls, fences or other structures.

• Never use fryer in, on, or under a garage, breezeway, carport, porch, deck or any other structure that can catch fire.

• Keep a fire extinguisher designated for oil fires nearby with someone on standby with familiarity on how to operate the extinguisher.

• Don’t over-fill — the volume of the turkey can displace oil, causing it to run over and ignite when oil contacts burner flame.

• Keep fryer in full view with constant monitoring while the burner is on.

• Keep children and pets away from the cooking area.

• Slowly raise and lower the turkey to reduce hot-oil splatter and to avoid burns.

• Immediately turn off the fryer if the oil begins to smoke. Smoke is a sign that the oil is about to ignite or reach its flash point.

• Make sure the turkey is completely thawed and be careful with marinades. Oil and water don’t mix and water can cause oil to spill over, creating a fire or even an explosion.

• Do not use a hose in an attempt to douse a turkey fryer fire.

• If you do burn yourself, or someone else is burned, seek immediate medical attention.

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:09 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012 to a report of a Turkey Fryer that ignited the side of a house in the 2200 block of North Walnut Avenue.

The homeowner was able to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher and water hose before firefighters arrived. Firefighters pulled siding down to check for extension of fire into the house.

Third Degree Burns at Old Orchard in Mount Prospect
Serafino Alfe, 86, tripped near a turkey fryer, causing about 30 quarts of hot oil to spill onto his leg. The accident caused third-degree burns that Alfe initially didn’t seem that serious. Paramedics recognized the seriousness of the burns and Alfe was transported to the Burn Center at Loyola University Hospital.

Turkey Fryer Death
In August 2007, Israel Hernandez, 5, was playing on his driveway at his home in the 500 block of East Merle Lane in Wheeling, Illinois on a Sunday afternoon. While his parents prepared food for his cousin’s surprise party inside the house, he somehow crashed the bike he was riding into a turkey fryer container that was cooking chili peppers in boiling cooking oil. He was seriously burned from the hot oil on his back and body from his shoulders down — about 60% of his body.

Israel’s parents immediately called 911, and suffered burn injuries to their hands while removing Israel’s hot clothing. Israel was conscious and protesting his trip to the hospital because he didn’t want to miss the party. Wheeling Fire Department paramedics requested a transfer by Loyola Lifestar helicopter immediately to the Loyola University Medical Center Burn Unit where Israel Hernandez arrived unconscious. After respiratory failure, Israel Hernandez died Wednesday, four days after his burn injury. The accident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2007. Israel fought for his life until Wednesday at 11:17 p.m. when he was pronounced dead.

Chicago Fire is off to a good start with an online sneak preview of the premier pilot episode which will broadcast on NBC on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT.

Chicago Fire — produced by Law & Order creator Dick Wolf — follows the lives of the firefighters and paramedics working for the Chicago Fire Department at the firehouse of Engine 51, Truck 81, Squad 3, Medic 61, and Battalion 25. The front driveway of the fire station has Willis Tower as a backdrop.

The characters are introduced well in the pilot, and the realism of the crash and fire scenes, while not perfect for the demanding and seasoned firefighter, should be accepted by a large audience as the real deal.

Considering how well this pilot played out, and that veteran Dick Wolf and creators Derek Haas and Michael Brandt will likely develop this series with some interesting twists, this should be exciting and addicting Wednesday night television. ‘Chicago Fire’ combine the grit and local feel of 1980′s ‘Hill Street Blues’ with the heroic episodes of 1970′s EMERGENCY! and this is a formula that fans will enjoy. Coincidentally, Chicago Fire’s engine signature has the same number as in EMERGENCY! — Engine 51 … and the fire station, too. Station 51.

Taylor Kinney plays an arrogant Lieutenant Kelly Severide, and Jesse Spencer plays a dedicated Lieutenant Matthew Casey. Charlie Barnett plays firefighter/candidate Peter Mills on Truck 81, and looks to be an interesting newbie that will be used to help illustrate for the audience some of the inside information about the firefighting career and firefighter traditions. Joe Minoso as truckie Joe Cruz will be very likable as Mills’ unofficial mentor.

LIKE the Facebook page below … it includes photos and a short video from the set.

The action-driven drama stars Taylor Kinney (“The Vampire Diaries”), Jesse Spencer (“House”), Monica Raymund (“The Good Wife”), former Chicagoan David Eigenberg (“Sex and the City”), Eamonn Walker (“Kings”) and Lauren German (“Hawaii Five-0”).

Eamonn Walker is cast well, and has the look of a seasoned Chicago Fire Department Battalion Chief, but his voice could be a little louder and more commanding. Directors might have him as a silent giant type, but he’d be more interesting with a little more force in his voice on scene. The pilot episode showed him planning strategy and giving orders well; it will be interesting to watch that mature through the series episodes.

Dick Wolf is a producer of crime stories, such as the television series Miami Vice (supervising producer) and NBC’s Law & Order, which he created. Plots of Law & Order were often based on real cases that recently made headlines (“Ripped from the Headlines”), and lasted for 20 seasons. Episodes were shot in New York City with emphasis on local characters, dialects, neighborhood customs, history and cityscapes. The ‘Chicago Fire’ pilot already threw in the mention of a western suburb of Chicago. A little more of that can’t hurt the authenticity of the show, especially among Chicagoans.

Thick black smoke and flames rose from a warehouse in the Canadian city of Winnipeg on Monday, after a huge fire broke out.

Winnipeg, Canada firefighters responded about 5:30 p.m. CT Monday to a Speedway International, Inc. at 40 Nicholas Avenue. The plant manufactures Pro Comp Racing Methanol. Residents were evacuated within a .6 mile radius (1 km) — affecting about 100 homes. Residents were able to return about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

People near by witnessed several explosions and a huge BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion) and the smell of fuel-related chemicals.

Crews got control of the fire with a foam truck from the Department of National Defence’s 17 Wing base in Winnipeg.

Significant industrial BLEVEs include accidents have occurred at Sunray, Texas in 1956, Glasgow, Scotland in 1960, Feyzin, France in 1966; Crescent City, Illinois in 1970; Kingman, Arizona in 1973; Texas City, Texas in 1978; Murdock, Illinois in 1983; and San Juan Ixhuatepec, Mexico City in 1984. On July 11, 1978, a BLEVE occurred with an ethylene tank truck in the Los Alfaques Disaster in Spain. In 2010 in Bialystok in Poland fire after train crash caused two explosions of two tank wagons with diesel fuel.

The production crew working on “Chicago Fire” which premieres October 10, 2012, has permission to shoot on the Amstutz Expressway while authorities shut it down from 10:00 a.m. September 27 through 2 a.m. September 28, 2012. The expressway will be shut down specifically for filming from Greenwood Avenue south to Genesee Street. Traffic will be detoured onto Sheridan Road. The Waukegan harbor area will be accessible from Pershing Road.

The majority of work and filming on the Amstutz Expressway will occur at night.

A portion of Genesee Street might be closed briefly during the day for scenes scheduled to be shot at Arden Shore Child and Family Services, 329 S. Genesee Street. All extra expenses for public safety work during the production is paid for by producers of ‘Chicago Fire’.

Previous movies filmed in Waukegan include Contagion (2011), Eagle Eye (2008), Save the Last Dance (2001), Batman Begins (2005), The Blues Brothers (1980), Ground Hog Day (1993), and A Wedding (1978).

Film shots from “Contagion” which starred Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet and Jude Law (not shown here). The scenes filmed in Waukegan featured semi-truck drivers and two National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopters moving along the Amstutz Expressway.

Chicago Fire Department Squad 5 on emergency response in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago (video is a composite of two emergency calls).

Chicago Fire Department Squad 5 is a two-vehicle response unit (1) heavy rescue/multi-utility truck and (2) a snorkel truck that runs out of Engine 116 firehouse where Ambulance 49 is also quartered. The video is a mix of two responses — one to a garage fire and the other to a report of a man in trouble in the water in Lake Michigan. Not all video segments are in order. The views out the front are to the water rescue. Quick interior view shows firefighter getting prepared by changing into water rescue gear. Most of the views out the back are during the response to the garage fire — both calls on Saturday, July 9, 2011.

VIDEO: William Bonner, 36, gets himself ready…to prove his friends wrong. It takes two attempts…and then…success? Yes, he can douse himself with rum, start his head on fire and earn a bed at the critical care unit.

Yesterday, it was Tony Robbins followers willing to burn their feet to prove themselves capable of — you fill in the blank.

Today, news out of Richmond County Sheriff’s office and Augusta, Georgia that a man bet his friends that the drink he was drinking could serve as fuel to light his face on fire. A surveillance video at Allie Katz bar captured the incident last Thursday and helped William Bonner prove his 15 seconds of flames … correction, 15 seconds of fame. Whatever.

Yesterday a San Jose fire official stated that the fire department discourages people from walking on hot coals. Today Allie Katz bar manager Keith Bussey warns, “Do not have your friend poor alcohol on your head and have your other friend light it and think that it’s cool in front of women.”

Bonner was transported to GHS Medical Center, then transferred to Doctors Hospital where he was listed in Critical Condition until Sunday.

Yes, Bacardi 151 is flammable, and Hemlock is poisonous.
