The Chrysler pushed the minivan 90 degrees and up onto the corner parkway. The minivan was headed eastbound on Euclid Avenue. The witness was going westbound on Euclid Avenue and said that the driver of the Chrysler 300 tried to squeeze between him and the oncoming minivan, and hit the minivan.

Arlington Heights and Rolling Meadows firefighter/paramedics responded to a report of a man possibly having a heart attack about 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the picnic area at the Arlington Million. Jason Chin, 28, was walking into the picnic area, just east of the grandstand, and collapsed.

Emergency personnel and possibly paramedics employed at the race track were performing CPR before paramedics from Rolling Meadows and Arlington Heights Fire Department arrived. Jason Chin was transported to Northwest Community Hospital by Rolling Meadows Fire Department rescue-ambulance. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Northwest Community Hospital.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office ruled that Jason Chin died of coronary atherosclerosis — the buildup of plaque inside arteries that can cause heart attack or sudden cardiac death. Toxicology tests were also ordered, which take about six to eight weeks to process. Arlington Heights police do not suspect a cause besides ‘natural cause’ of death related to the atherosclerosis.

Neighborhood scene in front of Windsor Elementary School after Jeep Grand Cherokee crashed and rolled while hitting a parked BMW.

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded just before 6:20 p.m. Monday to a crash in front of Windsor School on Windsor Drive, just north of Campbell Street. A woman apparently lost control of her Jeep Grand Cherokee and hit a parked BMW, and rolled the SUV while traveling northbound on Windsor Drive.

Police and firefighter/paramedics arrived to find the woman walking at the scene with the Jeep Grand Cherokee resting on its right side.

The woman received a minor laceration on her arm during the crash. She was not transported to the hospital. A police car shredded a right rear tire either at the scene or en route to the scene, but it was not involved in the accident. It was towed from the scene as the Jeep Grand Cherokee was towed from the scene.

Windsor Elementary School was not in session when the crash occurred.

There were three crashes on Windsor Drive Monday …
1. Windsor and Valley — a personal injury accident reported about 2:00 p.m.
2. Windsor and Suffield — head-on crash reported about 4:50 p.m.
3. Windsor in front of Windsor Elementary School reported about 6:20 p.m.

Video of storm that pounded Chicago, Elmhurst, Westchester and other western suburbs especially hard Friday, as viewed from Payton Hill in Arlington Heights.

After a steamy hot day with a near record high of 95°F in Westchester, Illinois, storms developed about 10:00 p.m. Friday. A line of storms developed from just south of O’Hare International Airport, over Elmhurst and Westchester as part of an established development of storms in a line all the way to Waterloo, Iowa. Lightning was continuous and severe with the storms that gradually drifted northward. The northwest suburbs were also hit, but most severe weather occurred in the western suburbs near O’Hare. At 11:10 a.m. O’Hare was reporting 6.17 inches of rain for the previous 24 hours ending between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. About 3 inches of rain were reported near the Lake County – Cook County border (data is provisional from National Weather Service).

Westchester apparently has suffered the worst from the storms overnight with heavy flooding reported in several areas. Westchester Fire Department called for help from all area fire departments for swift water rescue teams. Westchester is located just south of I-290 and just east of I-294. There was early report of a nursing home that is being evacuated because of an overflowing water reservoir in Hillside. Victims were rescued in Zodiac boats. Multiple patients that had been evacuated to a bus are also requiring another rescue. The water rescue incident in Westchester was a third-alarm inter-divisional box by 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

A state of emergency was declared in Westchester Saturday afternoon by Village President Sam Pulia.

Report from Westchester resident.

Fire departments from Addison, Evanston, Naperville, Oak Brook, Palatine, Rosemont, South Elgin, Warrenville, West Chicago and others responded with divers and/or boats.

Palatine Fire Department divers responded to Elmhurst for an evacuation/water rescue at Elmhurst hospital that was resolved quickly. At about 11:30 p.m. Friday, water levels reached the tops of vehicles stranded at the Robert T. Palmer Drive underpass to the railroad tracks. People were seen swimming and wading from their flooded vehicles.

Numerous underpasses and viaducts are flooded in Chicago, Schiller Park and other suburbs. Areas in Chicago have viaducts up to 4 to 8 feet deep with flooding. Cars were stranded in numerous locations.

Apparently the patient was stable, and AHFD did not continue with the transportation. No other injuries were reported.

Video: Mount Prospect firefighters at a downed power line cover for Arlington Heights firefighters busy on an apartment fire alarm related to the same power line problem.

Police and firefighters responded to a downed power line on Oakton Street, just east of Douglas Avenue. A woman was walking her dog on the sidewalk on the north side of Oakton when the electric power line snapped and fell to the ground and arced and smoked for a short time. The woman and her dog were only about one lot away from the location where the line fell.

Mount Prospect firefighters responded to the 700 block of East Oakton Street, because Arlington Heights firefighters responded to a fire alarm caused by a power disturbance at Avalon Apartments, 200 North Arlington Heights Road. The power disturbance was likely caused by the downed power line.

Com Ed arrived on the scene for repairs just minutes after the first Mount Prospect fire crews arrived. Arlington Heights firefighters arrived and relieved Mount Prospect firefighters that were keeping the scene secure.

Initially most people had electric power in the neighborhood, but later that night — about 9:45 p.m. Sunday — the neighborhood lost power for a short time during repair work.

VIDEO: Hazardous Materials Level II response at Elk Grove High School and a traffic stop for ignoring a police road block.

Elk Grove Village Fire Department called for a HazMat Level II response at Elk Grove High School, 500 Elk Grove Boulevard Sunday. The Elk Grove Village Fire Department responded to a large acid spill at the high school at about 11:15 a.m. Sunday and called for the extra-alarm at about 12:15 p.m. Fire departments from Arlington Heights, Bensenville, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Township, Hoffman Estates, Itasca, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Rolling Meadows, Roselle, Schaumburg, Streamwood and Wheeling Fire Department assisted Elk Grove Village Fire Department.

Rosemont Fire Department and other fire departments also assisted Elk Grove Village — covering fire stations to provide regular protection service for Elk Grove Village.

The operation was a prolonged operation with hazardous materials technicians from all MABAS Division I fire departments on scene. Additional technicians were also called from DuPage County fire departments — Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Elmhurst, Glenside, and York Center.

An alarm alerted firefighters of a problem at the high school, and when firefighters arrived they discovered a toxic cloud in a confined space of the basement near the swimming pool. The firefighters backed out of the building, donned Class A hazardous materials suits with self-contained breathing apparatus, and re-entered the building. Firefighters quickly determined the leak was hydrochloric acid (HCl) which reacts with water, floor residue, any metals contacted and humidity to form a toxic cloud. Hydrocholoric acid is used to lower the pH (increase the acidity) of swimming pool water to optimize pool water safety and clarity.

The pool was neutralized with sodium bicarbonate and the building was ventilated throughout the day and into the evening.

No injuries were reported. Part of the reason for the large response of personnel was the need to rotate manpower that were wearing gear that is especially hot in high heat index weather. The risk of heat illness was also reduced by set up of cooling area outside of the school building with fans and fluid replacement facilities. The Salvation Army and Red Cross responded with a canteen unit with a mobile mess hall.
