Opening Night Varsity Football for the Mid-Suburban League East is August 27, 2010. MSL East teams are Hersey High School Huskies, Buffalo Grove High School Bison, Elk Grove High School Grenadiers, Prospect High School Knights, Rolling Meadows Mustangs, and Wheeling High School Wildcats.

Saint Viator Lions 2010 Schedule. St. Viator plays in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. St. Viator High School is a Catholic co-educational secondary school in Arlington Heights, Illinois. It serves as a college preparatory school with approximately eleven-hundred students from the mid- and outer-northwest suburbs of Chicago. Runners High ‘n Tri and Pacific Health Labs are proud to present an evening with 6-Time Ironman Winner and Hall of Famer Dave Scott. Dave, also known as “The Man” in the triathlon community, is one of the most recognized athletes in the sport of triathlon. The free event will take place on Thursday, Aug. 26 from 7:15-8:30 p.m. at Runners High ‘n Tri (121 W. Campbell Street in downtown Arlington Heights).

The Q&A format will be moderated by Runners High ‘n Tri’s Mark Rouse and Dave will discuss his training tips, fueling and race strategies. Prior to the event, attendees are encouraged to submit questions for Dave that they hope will be addressed. Dave Scott won the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii six times in 1980 (9:24:33), 1982 (9:14:41), 1983 (9:05:57), 1984 (8:54:20), 1986 (8:28:37), and 1987 (8:34:13). His best time was in 1989 (8:10:13) when he finished second place. Mark Allen won in 1989 with a time of 8:09:14.

Only his rival, Mark Allen, managed to match these six titles eight years later. In 1993 Mark Allen achieved his best time with a first pace of 8:07:46. Currently the best time for the Ironman World Championship is held by Luc Van Lierde, of Belgium, with a time of 8:04:08.

Currently, the top women’s time is 8:54:02 held by Chrissie Wellington of Great Britain.

Triathlon: 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run
From 1978 through 1980 the Ironman World Championship was held on the island of Oahu, the course combining that of three events already held there: the Waikiki Roughwater Swim (2.4 mi./3.86 km), the Around-Oahu Bike Race (115 mi./185.07 km, originally a two-day event), and the Honolulu Marathon. In order to link the end of the bike stage to the start of the marathon course, the bike stage was reduced by 3 miles. In 1981 the race was moved to the less urbanized Island of Hawaiʻi, or Big Island, keeping the distances the same: a 2.4 miles (3.86 km) open water swim in Kailua-Kona Bay, a 112 miles (180.25 km) bike ride across the Hawaiian lava desert to Hāwī and back, and a marathon (26 miles 385 yards, 42.195 km) run along the coast of the Big Island from Keauhou to Keahole Point and back to Kailua-Kona, finishing on Aliʻi Drive.

Arlington Million 2010 Racing Results: Exciting finish with Debussy Beating Gio Ponti.

Irish-bred Debussy won the Arlington Million on Saturday, rallying to beat 2009 champion and favorite Gio Ponti by a half-length.This was the winner’s first North American start, covering 1 ¼ miles in 2:03.01 on firm turf.

Jockey William Buick steered Debussy along the rail from well back in the stretch run at Arlington Park. Debussy, owned by Darley Stud Management and trained by John Gosden, ran 1 miles on the turf course in 2:01.01 and paid $24, $8.20 and $5.60.

Gio Ponti returned $2.80 and $2.40, and Tazeez paid $4 to show.

Last years winner, Gio Ponti, ridden by Ramon Dominguez, was attempting to join John Henry (1981 and 1984) as the only two-time winner. Gio Ponti is owned by Castleton Lyons and trained by Christophe Clement.

The Arlington Million was the first thoroughbred race to offer a purse of $1,000,000 in August 1981. It is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge series, the winner of the 2008 Arlington Million automatically qualifies for the Breeders’ Cup Turf. The “Million” is considered by many in American racing circle to be the most prestigious turf race in the country behind only the Breeders’ Cup.

The Chicago Blackhawks host Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals Saturday, looking for their first NHL title since 1961. Chicago is led by captain Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and burly Dustin Byfuglien.

Jonathan Bryan Toews (pronounced /ˈteɪvz/; born April 29, 1988) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre and team captain for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL), and is currently the youngest full captain in the National Hockey League. He was selected by the Blackhawks with the third overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He joined the Blackhawks in 2007–08 and was nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy as NHL rookie of the year. The following season, he was named team captain, becoming the third youngest captain in NHL history at the age of 20. Patrick Timothy Kane Jr. (born November 19, 1988) is an American professional ice hockey right winger currently playing for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Blackhawks selected him with the first overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Dustin Byfuglien (pronounced /ˈbʌflɪn/ “Bufflin”) is a star player for the Chicago Blackhawks (born March 27, 1985). Originally a defenseman at the start of the 2007–08 season, he was moved to a right wing position to give the team a larger body near the net, an experiment that has proven successful. The forward excelled in his third professional season, becoming the first Rockford IceHogs player to earn the American Hockey League’s Player of the Week award, when he scored one goal and had five assists in four games. Byfuglien had seven points in eight games with Rockford. Byfuglien earned a recall on November 3 to the Chicago Blackhawks and never returned to the IceHogs. He had a goal in his first shift with the Blackhawks in the 2007–08 NHL season on November 3 against the St. Louis Blues and recorded his first career hat trick (three goals in one game) against the Phoenix Coyotes on November 30. He finished tied for fifth on the team with 19 goals and 36 points in his third season with the team, all while making a transition to forward throughout the campaign. The Chicago Bears thought they planned ahead to beat a storm bearing down on their destination for the Bears-Ravens game Sunday. Normally the Chicago Bears would leave Saturday afternoon — the day before a Sunday football game. However, with a winter storm warning and blizzard warning alerting the east coast to a possible record snowfall, the Bears decided to push their departure flight ahead to 10:30 p.m. Friday. Players and personnel sat on their plane from 10:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. Saturday because the snowstorm also was ahead of schedule — and caused a flight delay for the Bears Friday night. The Bears took from O’Hare International Airport about 8:00 p.m. CT and had a good flight to Baltimore, landing at about just before 11 p.m. ET. The charter flight for the Chicago Bears was the only flight permitted into Baltimore-Washington Internataional Airport (BWI) Saturday night, until a United Airlines redeye flight from Los Angeles arrived Sunday morning. BWI has four runways, but only one runway was open when the Chicago Bears landed Saturday night. . On Sunday morning BWI had two runways open.

The Bears expedition hauled back to Halas Hall, arriving at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday. So players slept in Chicagoland and will try another attempt today. Now the Bears have to consult with the airline charter and the charter’s weather experts to safely get to their destination — if not Baltimore-Washington International Airport, another airport nearby. That would be an airport outside the major storm perimeter. The Chicago Bears also consult with Accu-Weather and Weather Channel experts to find the best routing and time frames.

The City of Baltimore had already urged a delay of the start time of Sunday’s Bears-Ravens game from 12:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The delay is necessary so that public works can clear the streets and so that fans, who would need the extra time, could still make it to the game.

Could the Bears-Ravens game start time be pushed back again, or postponed? Could the Bears get a snow plow escort from an airport a few hundred miles away from Baltimore Raven’s M&T Bank Stadium? Stay tuned with Bears Twitter updates below!

Northwestern University’s Wide Receiver Zeke Markshausen made 16 catches Saturday at Michigan State, a record that ranks second only to Jon Harvey’s 17 against Michigan in 1982. The son of Arlington High School teacher and football coach Kim Markshausen didn’t play any organized football until eighth grade. Then he played for North Boone High School in Capron, Illinois. And after a list of many accomplishments, such as All-Conference and All-Area for three years as a North Boone High School Viking, he walked on at Northwestern in 2006.
