Jeep Grand Cherokee and red Toyota Camry after crash at Pine Avenue and Fremont Street.

Arlington Heights police received a report about 3:23 PM Thursday of a rollover crash at Pine Avenue and Fremont Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that burgundy Toyota and a green Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was slightly injured, but no crash victims were transported to the hospital.

A witness saw the crash happen, and reported that a green Jeep Grand Cherokee was westbound on Fremont Street at a high rate of speed. A Toyota Camry was already in the intersection when the Jeep Grand Cherokee clipped the front of the sedan. The bumper on the Toyota was ripped from the car as the Jeep Grand Cherokee hit the curb on the corner. When the Grand Cherokee hit the curb it went airborne, rolled over and landed upright on it wheels.

The witness said the Jeep Grand Cherokee flipped up at least 20 feet off the ground. The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee immediately got out of the SUV. The witness said the Jeep Grand Cherokee was estimated to be speeding at about 50 mph.

Police were investigating the crash for about one hour. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee that was allegedly speeding had the right of way, but there was concern that the speeding may have been a major contributing factor to the crash.

CHICAGO, IL – Cook County Sheriff’s Eviction Unit deputies found an unusual inhabitant of a Chicago apartment this morning: a three-foot Burmese Python, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said today.

About 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, deputies enforcing a court-ordered eviction in the 500 block of East Bowen Avenue in Chicago found the python in an aquarium located in a bedroom of the apartment.

Cook County Sheriff’s Eviction Unit Deputy in possession of Python.

The apartment was unoccupied at the time. The City of Chicago Animal Control was called and removed the snake.

No injuries to the deputies or the snake were reported.

This isn’t the first time Eviction Unit deputies have found a reptile while enforcing a court order. During an eviction on Feb. 27 in the 4500 block of West George Street in Chicago, a 2-foot long alligator was found in an aquarium. No human residents were home.
Chicago Animal Control was called to take custody of the reptile.

In September 2012 a light-colored Burmese Python was found outside in Waukegan. Pythons in Florida are major problem as an invasive species killing off natural species that inhabit Florida — especially the Everglades.

Buffalo Grove police received a report about 8:54 AM Sunday of an animal complaint near Burnt Ember Lane and Checker Drive, Buffalo Grove. Police received a report that two coyotes appeared to be stuck or tied together. The caller stated the coyotes appeared to be agitated and trying to pull apart from each other.

The coyotes were moving toward the creek near the golf course. A second report stated the coyotes pulled apart from each other, but that the coyotes appeared to be sick or injured.

When two coyotes are connected at the hind end, they are likely in a copulatory tie during mating. The two are actually stuck together, and virigins, including domestic dogs, can get pretty stressed out about it. The process can last 5 to 20 minutes.

Coyote breeding season peaks in late February or early March.

Coyote sighted at Memory Gardens Cemetery on East Euclid Avenue in Arlington Heights on Saturday, November 20, 2010. Compare to the appearance of a fox in the video below.

General reports of animal sightings without threatening behavior do not require emergency calls to 911. Arlington Heights Animal Wardens can be contacted for coyote sightings and general information at 847-368-5415.

DESCRIPTION:
The coyote looks similar to a medium sized German Shepard from a distance.
They weigh between 20-40lbs, stand 15-20in tall and are 4-5ft long including the 14in tail.
Their upper body color is generally dull yellow to gray with white or cream colored fur on the throat and belly. They have erect pointed ears and dark tipped tails.

BEHAVIOR:
Coyotes are primarily nocturnal but it is not unusual to see one during the day.
They have become desensitized to the existence of humans and allow themselves to be seen.

Coyote attacks on humans are extremely rare and are usually caused by interaction initiated by the person, such as feeding them or investigating their dens.

They eat mice, squirrels, rabbits, birds and other small animals. Coyotes help balance the fox, raccoon and opossum population. They take advantage of human-associated foods like garbage, pet foods and birdseed. Unattended pets are also an easy food source.

REPRODUCTION:
Coyotes mate in February and March with pups born in April or May. They are territorial creatures and may view other animals, including dogs, as a threat.

They often utilize abandoned fox, skunk, and woodchuck burrows for dens. Areas under decks and around sheds are also used by coyotes.

LIVING WITH COYOTES:
Never approach, touch, or intentionally feed a coyote
Eliminate all outside food sources, especially pet food. Secure garbage cans.
Clear out wood and brush piles creating habitats for rats and mice which may attract

Fox video walking through Arlington Heights. Breeding season for Foxes begins in December and peaks in early February.

Coyotes are larger animals with longer legs and a bigger rib cage area. Foxes have larger heads, larger ears and bushier tails. Foxes are not as aggressive as coyotes.
