Man Attacks Manager at Electronics Store on West Rand Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police responded about 6:51 PM Wednesday to a battery at HH Gregg 45 West Rand Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that a male offender was attacking a manager. No serious injuries were reported, and no paramedics were called to the scene. The man fled in a black Saturn Vue. He was accompanied by a female subject.

The offender is described as a male/white in his 20s.

Palatine police spotted the suspect in Palatine and detained him for Arlington Heights police. The subject was identified, arrested and transported to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters.

UPDATE: Residential Burglary on West White Oak St, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 6:19 PM Monday of a residential burglary in the block of 1300 West White Oak Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders appeared to pry open the sliding glass door before prying open a wooden rear den door to gain entry. They searched through the master bedroom and removed an envelope containing cash and numerous pieces of jewelry including a gold wedding ring with a marquis shaped diamond, amethyst/diamond ring and a full pearl necklace. The value of the jewelry and cash is unknown at this time.

The crime is reported to have occurred on Monday May 20, 2013 between 8:15 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

UPDATE: Theft of Wallet At Cooper’s Hawk On West Algonquin Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 7:02 PM Tuesday of a theft at Cooper’s Hawk restaurant, 798 West Algonquin Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders removed a black Vera Bradley wallet valued at $250 from the victim’s purse which was hanging on the back of a chair while she was eating with her friends. The wallet contained her Illinois driver’s license, credit/debit cards and cash. She realized the wallet was missing after receiving text messages from her bank alerting her the credit/debit cards were used at the Wal-Mart (over $800) and Meijer (over $200) in Rolling Meadows. Security video showed two females sit down at an adjacent table before the first offender removed the wallet from the purse. They immediately left after committing the theft.

The crime is reported to have occurred on Monday May 20, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.

The offenders area described as #1 female/white 5’05″ heavy set with blonde hair, wearing a green sweater, and #2 a female/black 5’05″ heavy set with black hair, wearing a white sweater.

Criminal Damage to Property on South Cleveland Ave and on East Rockwell St, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police on patrol about 3:00 AM Saturday discovered several incidents of criminal damage to property in the block of 700 South Cleveland Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders criminally damaged a group of mailboxes.

Police discovered at least two mailboxes damaged on South Cleveland Avenue.

One mailbox was also damaged in the 1100 block of East Rockwell Street.

Some of the mailboxes were found
in the middle of the street and returned to the proper location by police. Police also left contact information for a police report.

The crime is reported to have occurred sometime before Saturday May 18, 2013 at 3:00 a.m.

Arlington Heights police received a report about 10:33 AM Sunday of criminal damage to vehicle at Walgreens, 1711 West Campbell Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders criminally damaged a vehicle parked in the lot while a customer was at Walgreens.

A vehicle was keyed while the customer wa inside the store. The owner of the vehicle reported that a group of teens were noticed loitering in the lot during the same time period.

Arlington Heights police arrested a driver about 10:30 AM Friday for Cannabis possession after clocking him for speeding at Highland Avenue and Magnolia Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police stopped the vehicle at White Oak Street and Vail Avenue.

Police transported the driver in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters. The driver’s Chevrolet 1500 Blazer was towed to a police holding area.

Hit-and-Run Driver from Lake Ave Near Edens Expressway in Wilmette Arrested DUI in Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police arrested a DUI driver about 1:20 PM Wednesday near Chestnut Avenue and Euclid Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police initially received a report of a reckless driver on westbound Euclid Avenue at Dryden. Police received a report that a black Ford Expedition or Excursion, missing a right mirror, was traveling at high speed and driving on curbs. Police were updated by a second motorist that reported a reckless driver, apparently the same offender, was westbound Euclid Avenue at Arlington Heights Road.

Police responded quickly and also observed the vehicle hitting a curb. Upon investigation of the vehicle, police discovered that the driver/vehicle was wanted for investigation of a personal injury hit-and-run incident that occurred just before noon on Lake Avenue, just west of the Edens Expressway. Allegedly, the driver of the black Ford Excursion was involved in a minor crash. After the crash, the driver of the other vehicle approached the Ford Excursion, but the female driver of the Ford Excursion drove away. Somehow the other driver was dragged while she was hanging on the side of the Ford Excursion for a short distance, and fell to the road. The driver in the Ford Excursion fled the scene, and the victim that fell was transported to a local hospital near Wilmette.

Arlington Heights police also called an ambulance for the female driver of the Excursion, who was in custody, but was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. The driver’s black Ford Excursion was towed to a police holding area.

Arlington Heights police were communicating with Wilmette police regarding extradition and possible evidence collection for the hit-and-run incident.

DUI Arrest Near Rand Road and Route 53, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police arrested a DUI driver 12:21 AM Thursday near Rand Road and Route 53 Arlington Heights, IL. Illinois State Police broadcast a DUI alert for northbound Route 53 from Algonquin Rd about 12:15 a.m. Thursday — apparently after a tip from another motorist. Officers got behind the vehicle at Palatine Road. The vehicle was swerving across the lane lines and eventually swerved onto the exit ramp for Rand Road. The vehicle stopped at a light, then made an illegal turn and failed to signal a lane change. A traffic stop was made on a frontage road near Rand Road and Route 53. There was a strong odor of alcoholic beverages from the female driver’s mouth. When told she was under arrest, she attempted to walk away and then pulled her arms out of the officer’s grasp.

Mwenya Clermont, a 34-year-old female of the 2700 block of W. Bayside Drive in Palatine, was charged with DUI, Resisting a Peace Officer, Improper Lane Usage, and Making an Improper Turn.

Police transported the Clermont in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters. The driver’s white 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee was towed to a police holding area.

The female driver also refused to comply with a police officer’s orders while in lockup.

Court date is Monday June 17, 2013.

Family Disturbance, 2 in Custody, 1 to Hospital on East Algonquin Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police responded about 10:23 PM Wednesday to a family problem in an apartment in the block of 1100 East Algonquin Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report of a physical fight and serious threats to family members at the apartment. First police on the scene called for backup and a supervisor to respond to the scene. Police surrounded the apartment and a Taser was possibly deployed — not confirmed. A Spanish language translator was also called to the scene.

Paramedics were requested at the scene at about 10:33 p.m. The threat was resolved by about 10:50 p.m.

Police transported one male/adult and one male/unknown in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters.

One victim was transported to the hospital with police following.

Residential Burglary/Theft at Condo Unit on North Vail Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 6:01 PM Wednesday of a residential burglary/theft at a condo unit in the block of 99 North Vail Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders stole several pieces of jewelry while a contractor left a condo unit unsecured for several minutes. The contractor was away from the condo unit getting materials out of a work van parked on the street.

Several pieces of jewelry were removed from a large jewelry box. The items removed included a pair of gold earrings with four diamonds and a gold necklace with a large fake diamond pendant.

The crime is reported to have occurred on Wednesday May 8, 2013 between 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Cook County Sheriff Warns of Scam Targeting Asian Indian Community Members

Des Plaines, IL – Sheriff Thomas J. Dart is warning of a phone scam where callers threaten victims with arrest and/or deportation if they do not pay up.

Cook County Sheriff’s Police have received a number of reports from the unincorporated Des Plaines area of unknown callers telling victims they are from the Internal Revenue Service or a collection agency.

The callers tell the victims, all who are originally from India, that they could be arrested or deported if they do not send the “payments owed.” The callers often speak to the victims in various Indian languages.

Average individual losses have been in the thousands.

In some cases, victims were instructed to make payments via Green Dot MoneyPak reloadable debit cards.

Sheriff Dart offers the following tips to avoid becoming a victim of this type of scam:

If you believe the call is suspicious, hang up.

Do not send money to anyone unfamiliar to you.

Do not give any personal information, such as social security or bank account numbers, over the phone.

If the caller claims to be from the Internal Revenue Service, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to determine if the agency has a legitimate reason to call you.

If the caller claims to be from a collection agency, get the name and contact information for the collection agency and call back to determine if there is a legitimate reason to contact you.

Check any unfamiliar area codes before returning calls.

If you do not have Caller ID, consider adding it to your phone service.

Report any suspicious phone calls to your local law enforcement or Cook County Sheriff’s Police at 708-865-4896.

Landscaping Trailer Burglary Near South Middle School on South Highland Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 10:36 AM Wednesday of a residential burglary at South MIddle School, 400 South Highland Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that offenders were seen burglarizing a landscaping trailer, which was closed but not secured.

The offenders removed two weed wackers, two backpack blowers and two hedge trimmers. The value of the items is unavailable. Mount Prospect police handed a similar case on Northwest Highway at about 12:40 p.m.

The offenders left in a green older model Chevy Astro van.

The crime is reported to have occurred on Tuesday May 14, 2013 about 1:05 p.m.

Arlington Heights police received a report about 11:27 PM Wednesday of a theft of liquor at HD Liquor Depot, 1776 West Algonquin Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an offender took a bottle of Kraken Rum valued at $28 and left without paying.

The offender is described as a male/white, 5’6″ 150 LBS, wearing a Bulls hat, a gray hooded sweatshirt and black shorts.

The crime is reported to have occurred about 11:20 p.m. Friday May 14, 2013.
