For years the village doesn’t charge property tax because it has relied on sales tax, especially from Woodfield Mall. A shopping slump is blamed for a deficit over $17.5 million that could lead to a municipal property tax in Schaumburg. Of a 10 percent sales tax, 2 percent goes to the Village of Schaumburg.

Village Manager Ken Fritz reports that Schaumburg went into the recession with a $20 million surplus, which is expected to run out next year. A municipal property tax is expected to be required to run municipal services, such as police, fire and public works departments.

Woodfield Mall is the fifth-largest shopping mall in America.

The first 200 shoppers to arrive prior to 6 a.m. on Friday, November 28th Woodfield Mall Door 1, next to Todai Seafood Buffet, will receive a free Woodfield Gift Card valued at $50 and a complimentary Santa’s hat.

Shoppers are expected to lined up hours before the stores with big sales at malls and strip malls in Chicagoland. Once inside, the stores shoppers often rush and grab, as many stores have only a few of the big draw items. Electronics and popular toys are often the most sought-after items and may be sharply discounted.

Deer Park will get a visit from Santa on Friday November 14, 2008 at 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

Be there when Santa turns on the Christmas lights and then watch Deer Park’s annual fireworks show.

A new Whole Foods Market is under construction, just south of Woodfield Mall at Woodfield Road and Martingale Road. The site was once occupied by Homemakers at 1733 East Woodfield Road.

Crate & Barrel is also expected to have a location at this new site.

An impressive new restaurant and bar is opening in Schaumburg: John Barleycorn at the corner of National Parkway and American Way.

The spacious restaurant has a big bar at the left and a big dining area on the right. Go straight back and up the stairs or elevator and find a huge dance hall with a stage for live bands and a large DJ control center as well. The dance hall holds upwards of 900 people.

Thousands of professional wrestling fans packed the center court area of Woodfield Mall Saturday and Sunday. The event bumped the Easter Bunny over to a side area of the court.

Retired professional wrestler Hillbilly Jim hosted the event.

WWE Superstar Mick Foley and Diva Candice Michelle (also Playboy babe and GoDaddy girl) were onstage Sunday.

For the past year, 12 Oaks developer Michael Sparks has commissioned a small plane at about $3000 per week to fly over the Woodfield Mall and Northwest Tollway area three days per week pulling a banner that advertises his Schaumburg townhomes.

The plane — towing a large banner — flies over the mall and surrounding highways on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons during good flying weather and good visibility days. Last year, the day after Thanksgiving, responses to the plane’s flyovers reached 50 phone calls that resulted in 15 property visits.

An earlier air marketing campaign that flew over the Arlington Park racecourse region generated zero leads, but the latest campaign over Woodfield Shopping Mall in Schaumburg has helped about 400 sales of townhomes.

Woodfield Mall is the largest shopping mall in the Chicago area in Schaumburg, Illinois at the intersection of Golf Road and Illinois Route 53.

Woodfield opened on September 9, 1971 with 59 stores, growing to 189 stores with 1.9 million retail square feet by 1973, the largest mall in the United States at that time. Transportation

Pace Bus, the Suburban Bus service, has a complete bus center, which the ending of several routes. It is also the hub for the “Cubs Roundtripper” to Wrigley Field, “Bears Shuttle” to Soldier Field, “Six Flags Shuttle” to Six Flags Great America, and “The Flower and Garden Show” Shuttle.

The Woodfield Trolley (owned and operated by Pace) has begun service to the convention center from Woodfield, with trolleys running every 30 minutes.

Schaumburg also has a municipal Heliport (ICAO: 4H1) available for public use. It has the main helicopter pad, 1 helicopter parking space, and grassy area for extra parking.
