Arlington Heights Village Board Denies Funeral Home Construction Near Waterman and Euclid

The proposal to relocate Lauterberg & Oehler Funeral Home from its current location on Northwest Highway to Memory Gardens Cemetery at the corner of Euclid and Waterman was rejected at a Village board meeting Monday night.

The village board voted 6-2 against an ordinance that would have allowed the construction project to begin at the west end of Memory Gardens Cemetery. Thomas Hayes and Helen Jensen voted for the project’s approval. A preliminary vote July 20 to allow the ordinance variance was 7-1 in favor of Lauterburg and Oehler Funeral Home.

Service Corporation International, owner of both the cemetery and the funeral home, was seeking a zoning variance to build in the cemetery, but the plans failed because SCI, which owns the cemetery and the funeral home, would not agree to move the funeral home further east.

Service Corporation International options are to move the project further east, at additional expense, or find another property location.

New Northwest Suburban Medical Office Under Construction on Arlington Heights Road

The Northwest Suburban Medical Office Building at 1410 N. Arlington Heights Road is under construction this winter 2007-08 next to the existing 1420 and 1430 medical office buildings.

The planned single story building is just over 15,000 square feet and is on a site on the south side of the medical office building campus. Demolition of a large house preceded the new construction.

Plans were approved at the Arlington Heights Village Board Meeting on May 21, 2007  and included a variation of the minimum number of required parking from 303 to 260 parking stalls. The approval followed a public hearing of the Plan Commission on May 9, 2007.

Northwest Community Hospital Addition: Eight-story South Wing, Parking Deck and More …

The footing and foundation for an eight-story structure is well underway at Northwest Community Hospital. Designed specifically around the needs of patients and their families, the new addition will feature a range of visitor amenities and all private patient rooms to enhance comfort and healing. The new patient bed area will increase the hospital’s staffed bed count from 410 to 488. The new building’s design encourages plenty of natural light and views of nature, and was planned with our mission of family-centered healing in mind.

The project consists of 332,573 square feet of new and remodeled space, and will include:

• A New Entry and Public Lobby
This new welcoming center will provide an attractive, modernized entry point for the facility, making it easier for guests to find their way throughout the hospital.

• An Additional 24-bed Critical Care Unit
The entire second floor will be comprised of this new Critical Care Unit that will feature state-of-the-art technology. Each room will be modeled after those in the current Critical Care unit, which allows for maximum patient privacy and comfort.

• A New Labor and Delivery, and Postpartum Unit
The fourth and fifth floors will be dedicated to Women’s Services, with new Labor and Delivery rooms on the fourth floor–each designed to be a spacious 400 square feet. The 34 private Postpartum rooms on the fifth floor will be comfortable and inviting.

• Three Floors Designed to Care for Surgical Patients
Floors six, seven and eight are each designed to be 34-bed medical/surgical units, with rooms that include private individual baths, space for family members, and overnight accommodations for guests.

• A New Seven-level Sheltered Parking Deck for 780 Cars
To provide convenient parking and shelter against the elements, a new parking garage for 780 cars will be located on the east side of the campus, with two levels below ground level, and five levels above. A glass curtain wall system will provide the deck with the appearance of a building rather than a parking structure.

All construction of this phase of Northwest Community Hospital’s development is expected to be completed by 2010.
