CHICAGO-BASED ROCK AND SOUL OUTFIT TO PLAY THE METROPOLIS PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE IN ARLINGTON HEIGHTS
Feb 11, 2010 Chicago, IL — Platetectonic Music and NoVo Arts, Inc are proud to announce that Poi Dog Pondering will be playing two very special shows at the intimate Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in Arlington Heights, IL on February 26th & 27th. Visual artist Marco Ferrari will join the band for both performances.
Known as “The little big band with the strong back and supple/stubborn heart,” Poi Dog Pondering has been following its intuition for over 25 years. From bohemian street buskers to impossible to market major label sacrificial lambs, PDP has ripened into staunchly independent musical voyagers. They have let every sound that has excited them flow through their music and flood it with ever changing colors: rock and soul; orchestral, acoustic and electronic textures; Americana, disco and international music. All styles are threaded along the way with lyrics that embrace the beauty and pain that life can bring.
Wednesday brought me, for the first time, to the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in Arlington Heights. On tap; “Steppin Out” courtesy of Michael Ingersoll (a.k.a. Nick Massi) of the recently ended “Jersey Boy” fame, with his fellow cast members and wife Angela. Anyone who enjoys flashing back to the “Rat Pack” and “Doo Wop” era will really enjoy this show. Michael takes the lead and perform solo early on including a chic number with Angela. A little comedy and audience interaction spices things up at bit. The show really starts to sizzle after intermission when the other “Boys”, John Michael Dias, Shonn Wiley, and Michael Cunio share funny and entertaining stories of youth, growing up, and show biz while belting out hit after hit of those oldies but goodies backed up by an outstanding band “The Mulligan Mosaics”. This show will surely entertain but be forewarned, don’t go for the Four Seasons songs alone, only a medley of those songs create an exciting finale to the show. The Metropolis theater is an intimate and very comfortable venue to see a show, great atmosphere.
Shawn Mullins is best known for the 1998 single, “Lullaby,” which hit number one on the Adult Top 40 and was nominated for a Grammy Award. A perfect song for the Metropolis venue — a lot of people’s favorite. In fact people are flocking to YouTube to hear and comment on this song published by SONY BMG ENTERTAINMENT. The reason for the recent comeback? An episode of NBC’s The Office. Lullaby was featured on The Office and viewers fell in love with the song again … some for the first time. ‘Nashville with a tan’ you know the lyrics …
Hung out with folks like Dennis Hopper, Bob Seger and Sonny and Cher
She feels safe now in this bar in Fairfax
…
I sing to her a lullaby
I sing:
Everything’s gonna be alright
Rockabye, Rockabye
…
She’d be a whole prettier if she’d smile once in a while
Even her smile looks like a frown
It’s a lot of peeps’ all-time favorite song. Looks and sounds like people want more Mullins.
Mullins song ‘All in My Head’ is featured in the TV series ‘Scrub’ soundtrack.
A sold out night at Metropolis, lines of people trying to get in, a waiting list of callers hoping for a single ticket. The Metropolis had no choice but to bring him back. For one night only, Shawn Mullin — a legend of Americana rock & pop and former U.S. Army officer brings his old hits, new album, stories, personality and charm to Metropolis to blaze through a night of acoustic rockers and ballads suitable for those who LOVE music. Mullins’ guitar and his ruggedly beautiful voice make for a great night. Don’t wait – get your tickets early.
