Oppikoppi music festival is held in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, near the mining town of Northam. The festival hosts most music genres. The festival is held on the second week of August.

Oppikoppi literally means “on the hill” with camping area at the foot of a hill. On top of the hill is a bar and a stage that features all the hip hop and dance acts, while the main stages feature all of the big acts and most of the rock bands. Oppikoppi has several stages with simultaneous performances.

Memorial Day Concert
Saturday, May 25 at 3pm. at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre. A moving tribute to veterans and servicemen will feature Broken Arrow performing classic Vietnam-era songs. The American Legion Post 208 Color Guard will post the Colors. The Mayor will make opening remarks, and the members from the School of Performing Arts will add a medley of patriotic songs. Between songs, there will be dramatic readings of the experiences of Vietnam veterans including a very moving reading by Major General James Mukoyama. In addition, we will honor Arlington’s Fallen Heroes and the sacrifice that they made for our country. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Memorial Park Fund. Military units, veterans, bands, scouts and many more will march in this fantastic Memorial Day celebration. This year, Arlington Heights invites any veteran from the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Middle East Wars to march in the Memorial Day Parade. All these veterans will receive a well deserved “Welcome Home” along the parade route from the people of Arlington Heights.

Memorial Day Ceremony — Tribute Following the Memorial Parade

This beautiful tribute will include honor all those who have given their lives for our Freedoms. The Memorial Day Choir, comprised of 200 voices from Arlington Heights church and school choirs, will sing The Navy Hymn, Mansions of the Lord, and Amazing Grace as we remember Arlington’s 58 Fallen Heroes. In addition, the names of area veterans who have passed away in the previous 12 month will be honored in a reading.

The Arlington Heights Fire Department and the Muscular Dystrophy Association will be holding its AHFD/MDA Boot Drive from 6:30-10:30 a.m. and 2:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013.

Firefighters will be out “Filling the Boot” at the major intersections in Arlington Heights: Palatine and Arlington Heights roads; Northwest Highway and Arlington Heights Road; and at the downtown Arlington Heights train station, collecting to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy.

Last year, the fire department set a record and raised more than $19,000 for MDA, and they are looking to beat that total with your help.

The DRIVE, 97.1 FM, will be at the corner of Palatine and Arlington Heights roads from 7-9 a.m. offering support and giving away prizes to people who make a donation to MDA.

MDA works directly in communities nationwide. Individuals, who are affected by more than 43 neuromuscular diseases, are eligible to receive an array of services ranging from specialized health care to summer camp retreats for young adults.

MDA’s worldwide research program represents the largest single effort to advance knowledge of neuromuscular diseases and to find cures and treatments for them. Due to the direct contributions of generous individuals and organizations, all MDA services are provided without cost to those served.
This year, the Arlington Heights Fire Department will also be hosting an AHFD/MDA Benefit from 7-11 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Eddie’s Restaurant and Tavern, 10 E. Northwest Hwy., in downtown Arlington Heights. There will be a 50/50 raffle, along with an auction, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to MDA.

Zombie Prom is sort of a mash-up of Grease, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Walking Dead, but “slicker and a lot funnier,” according to director Jeremy Morton. There is definitely something for everyone: dancing, doo-wops, teen ballads, rocking and rousing music, and a nuclear zombie!

This is the story of rebel-without-a-cause Jonny (played by senior Franco Longobardi), who drives his motorcycle into an atomic power plant and comes back as a zombie, determined to win his girl back. Jonny struggles to be treated just like any other kid. He and his girlfriend, Toffee (senior Jamie Kowalczyk), and the town reporter, Eddie Flagrante (senior Patrick Pfohl), battle against the hard-headed school principal Miss Strict (senior Chloe Chidester) to allow Jonny to re-enter high school, and especially to go to prom. Overall, Zombie Prom’s message is one of equal rights for all—in this case, even the undead.

Longobardi will compete on Monday, April 29, against some of the most talented musical theater students in the state, representing Prospect’s Zombie Prom. Last year the inaugural Just Move It! Challenge 2012 Run/Walk raised approximately $24,000 towards the Scholarship and Grand Fund benefitting the education of students in School District 25 through PTA Scholarships and ABC/25 Foundation School Grant selection.

This years run/walk started and finished as South Middle School near South Street and Highland Avenue and along Highland Avenue.

Dermot Fitzpatrick was the top finisher of the 5K with a time of 16:53.8 (5:27 mile per minute pace). Sara Zientara was the top female finisher with a time of 18:53.7 (6:05 mile per minute pace).

Students, parents and staff from Dryden, Greenbrier, Ivy Hill, Olive Mary Stitt, Patton, South Middle School, Thomas Middle School, Westgate and Windsor were out to show support on a cold Saturday, April 13th, 2013.

The 5K started at 8:00 a.m. with air temperature at about 35°F and a wind child of about 27°F. Mile runs started at 9:00 a.m. with a warm up to about 37°F and a wind chill still at about 27°F. Runners and walkers braved a West wind from about 10 mph to 18 mph, and most people were all smiles.

The Bible is a television mini-series, produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, which is based on the Bible. It began March 3, 2013, airing weekly in primetime on the channel History, culminating on March 31.

The first episode of the mini-series the cable channel History was seen by 13.1 million viewers, the largest cable television audience so far for 2013. The second installment continued “to deliver blockbuster ratings” for the network, attracting 10.8 million viewers. ‘The Bible’ is once again the #1 show on all of television Sunday night with 10.9 million total viewers. In addition, the The Bible mini-series garnered 4.2 million Adults 25-54 and 3.5 million Adults 18-49.

Now enter the controversy. Social media platforms like Twitter (over 20,000 tweets) and Facebook erupted when viewers noticed a similarity of actor Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni, who was cast as Satan, and U.S. President Barack Obama. The actor has been cast as Satan in other movies long before Barack Obama was president.

“HISTORY channel has the highest respect for President Obama. The Bible series was produced with an international and diverse cast of respected actors. It’s unfortunate that anyone made this false connection. HISTORY’s ‘The Bible’ is meant to enlighten people on its rich stories and deep history.”

The mini-series is a retelling of the stories from Genesis to Revelation and is produced by Mark Burnett, who also created Survivor and The Apprentice. He told CBS making The Bible was a “spiritual” calling, not a commercial one.

The Citizens’ Police Academy has proven to be a very popular program within our Community Policing efforts. Class members will meet and interact with many members of the police department and will be exposed to many facets of law enforcement. Each week different topics are presented covering patrol operations, investigations, traffic enforcement, support services, and training. The experience is not limited to classroom lectures alone. Class members will be given the opportunity to participate in a patrol ride-along, participate in firearms training on the range, practice mock traffic stops, and visit the 9-1-1 central dispatch center. People who attend 75% of the sessions are eligible to graduate and then join the Schaumburg Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (www.cpaaas.org).

Through the Citizens Police Academy, we hope to provide an environment that will help foster relationships between the police and community. It is our desire that the graduates will become partners with us in identifying problems and solutions to quality of life issues that face our community.

Remember when a YouTube user published a video that captures a pig rescuing a screaming goat — floundering in an unknown United States petting zoo. The pig appears to simply nudge the goat to shore, and both walk safely on land. And the pig appears to be a hero. But actually the whole video was a commercial for a new Comedy Central program “Nathan For You” which premieres Thursday.

The “pig rescue” was staged with the help of underwater clear plastic tracking and doting scuba divers because the pig was afraid of the water. At least 20 crew members assisted with the fake rescue. The show presents Nathan Fielder working to help small businesses. One of those businesses is the petting zoo, which will be featured in an upcoming episode with Nathan creating video buzz for the petting farm in Oak Glen, California.

with a tap of the President’s cane.

Phil and President Deeley conversed in Groundhogese
and Phil directed him to the chosen Prognostication scroll.

The President tapped the chosen scroll and
directed Phil’s Prediction be proclaimed:

My new Knob entrance is a sight to behold
