Chicago Tribune Crime Reporter’s Chevy Malibu Carjacked, Personal Items Taken

Chicago police received a report about 2:30 a.m. Monday December 4, 2017 that a 29-year-old female reporter with the Chicago Tribune was carjacked when she was sitting in her Tribune-issued Chevy Malibu near a Dunkin’ Donuts near 31st Street and Halsted Street.

The crime scene in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood, near a Dunkin Donuts, is located less than one block from the Chicago Police Department’s 9th District Headquarters.

The Chicago Tribune crime reporter was sitting inside the car, when she was approached by two men that had exited an SUV. One offender told her to get out of the car, but he did not show a gun. The female victim got out of her Chevy Malibu, leaving some of her personal belongings inside the vehicle. The men drove off with the car and her belongings.

The victim was not hurt, but offenders took her wallet, police/fire radio scanners, and a laptop with the vehicle.

No arrests were made, and the victim’s vehicle was not immediately recovered.

Chicago police canvassed the neighborhood and attempted to obtain images from strip mall surveillance video. Cameras are mounted on a nearby CVS store.
