The Rolling Meadows Police Department recently made an arrest of a defendant who is believed to be responsible for three home invasions, during which two sexual assaults were committed and one sexual assault was attempted during the period from December 2016 and June 2017. All of these incidents occurred in the East Park Apartment Complex near Algonquin Road and Weber Drive and Algonquin Road and Algonquin Parkway over the past year between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m..
Following is a description of the incidents …
During the early morning hours of December 28th, 2016 the defendant entered an apartment through an open window in the block of 4800 Weber Drive, where he attempted to sexually assault a female victim who was asleep in her bed. The defendant was interrupted by another occupant of the apartment and fled out a window.
During the early morning hours of January 14th, 2017 the defendant forcibly entered an apartment located in the block of 4800 Algonquin Parkway. The defendant was armed with a knife and proceeded to sexually assault the female victim.
During the early morning hours of June 30th, 2017, the defendant made forced entry into another apartment located in the block of 4800 of Algonquin Parkway. The defendant was again armed with a knife and sexually assaulted the female victim.
In November of 2017 one of the sexual assault victims observed the defendant while shopping in a local retail establishment and notified detectives after she left the store. Detectives reviewed store surveillance camera footage and obtained pictures of the defendant who was later identified as Miguel A. Gonzalez Cruz.
Detectives obtained search warrants which led to evidence, including DNA, connecting the defendant to the sexual assaults/home invasions.
Defendant Miguel Angel Gonzalez Cruz, age 35, of 4884B Algonquin Parkway, Rolling Meadows was charged with the following:
Two counts of aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault
Three Counts of Home Invasion
One Count of Attempted Criminal Sexual Assault
One Count of Residential Burglary
On November 30th, 2017 the defendant was taken to the Rolling Meadows Cook County 3rd District Courthouse for a bond hearing. The defendant was ordered held on no bond. His next court date is December 21, 2017.
