Man Critically Injured in House Fire on Grant Highway (US 20) and Locust St in Marengo

Police officers rescued a man from a house fire in northwest suburban Marengo late Monday night. CBS 2’s Mike Puccinelli reports.

Marengo police and fire/paramedics responded about 10:14 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2017 to a report of a house fire at or near 705 East Grant Highway. The fire was initially reported at 717 East Grant Highway. A man was injured in the fire and rescued by police officers that kicked in the door.

Police on arrival initially reported a confirmed fire and said there was a vehicle on the driveway. Police reported a possible entrapment of a victim inside the house by about 10:16 p.m., then reported they needed assistance at the back door of the house.

Engine 1141’s crew reported a 2-story multi-family home with light smoke showing from the interior, and a victim removed unconscious. The victim also had burns.

By 10:20 p.m. firefighters reported heavy fire showing from the second floor with Engine 1141’s crew making an interior attack. The patient was located near the corner of Grant Highway and Locust Street near the ambulance. Flight for Life was also put on standby. Flight was dispatched to the scene by 10:21 p.m. and landed at the Marengo Community Middle School by 10:43 p.m.

The victim was transported by Flight for Life helicopter to Loyola Medical Center, where he was admitted to the Loyola Medicine Burn Center. His condition was unknown(not released) Tuesday.

A primary search of the first floor and basement was completed by about 10:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Marengo Fire Department, authorities said.
