Prospect Heights police and Wheeling firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:29 AM Thursday October 26, 2017 to a report of a mom and her baby in a stroller hit by a vehicle at Hintz Road and Schoenbeck Road Wheeling, IL. Wheeling Fire Department Ambulance 23’s crew discovered a mom and baby in a stroller that had just been hit by a vehicle, and lying in the east crosswalk crossing Hintz Road.

A mom, age 35, was hit by a car and very seriously injured. Her child, an infant of unknown age, was also hit and believed to be a Basic Life Support patient (BLS).

A second ambulance was requested about 10:30 a.m. — A24 assigned.

A third ambulance requested by Wheeling Battalion Chief 24 at about 10:40 a.m. — Wheeling Ambulance 42 was assigned.

Ambulance 23’s crew transported one patient Advanced Life Support (ALS) to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge by 10:55 AM; and Ambulance 24’s crew transported one patient BLS to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

Lutheran General was on bypass since about 2:00 a.m., but accepted the ALS patient from Hintz Road and Schoenbeck Road. Staff at the Lutheran General Hospital also accepted the infant so that the mother and infant could be at the same hospital.

One BLS patient was transport to Glenbrook Hospital (not confirmed).

The crash was in Prospect Heights jurisdiction, but was managed by Wheeling Fire Department since the Wheeling ambulance crew discovered the crash. Prospect Heights firefighter/paramedics also responded to the scene.

A red 2016 Toyota Corolla hit the two pedestrians — a mother and her baby in a stroller. The information about the direction of travel of the pedestrians and the vehicle were not immediately released by police. Information about the driver’s identity was also not immediately released.

Prospect Heights police and the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) Serious Traffic Crash Assistance Team were on the scene for an extended accident investigation. Police officers from Elk Grove Village, Rolling Meadows, and South Barrington were part of the MCAT team. Wheeling police were also on the scene.

Hintz Road was blocked in both directions east of Schoenbeck Road from 10:30 a.m. until about 3:30 p.m.
