Small Fire in Metra Train Engine Near Davis Street Station in Evanston After Cubs Game Thursday Night

About 400 people — many of them Cubs fans heading home after the team’s season-ending loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers — had to evacuate their Metra train when it caught fire late Thursday in Evanston.

A Metra engine name “Leonard S. Eisenberg” developed a small fire, and was stopped on elevated tracks at the Davis Street stop in Evanston about 11:00 p.m. Thursday October 19, 2017. The fire was quickly extinguished with Evanston firefighters on the scene.

Metra outbound train #367 on the Union Pacific North line was transporting about 400 passengers — many were Cub fans that left Game 5 of the NLCS Championship that would end with the Cubs losing the post-season series to the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1.

The CTA Purple line, which terminates in Wilmette, runs just east of the Metra Union Pacific North Line, which terminates in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
