Tonight in the Chicago area, the Moon will set at 5:55 p.m., just after Venus and Mars, which will be lined out to the lower right from the Moon. Sunset is 6:03 p.m. which might make the Moon difficult to see.

The order of the sky objects from left to right is Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars. Star watching will be bright tonight with no light pollution from the Moon.
The Waning Crescent Moon will barely show a 1% crescent while setting this evening. Tomorrow morning the Moon will rise at 6:45 a.m. in the New Moon phase which is generally not visible. Clear skies are expected for several more days, so the Waxing Crescent Moon on Friday (Moonset 6:55 p.m./no cloud cover) or Saturday (Moonset 7:28 p.m./50% cloud cover) should be a good sight.
