As violence broke out in the northwest corner of the country where Taliban moved into Buner close to Islamabad, Pakistan, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Pakistan posed a ‘mortal threat’ to the world.

Militants are attempting to cut off supply chains to Pakistan troops stationed at Buner.

Dozens of militants armed with guns and gasoline bombs blew up five tankers carrying fuel to NATO troops in Afghanistan.

Militants in Buner also are using radio stations to broadcast sermons about Islam, and have occupied homes of some prominent landowners.

Taliban have also set up checkpoints and are patrolling roads in Buner District.

Militants have occupied police stations and were roaming marketplaces urging people to support Sharia law. Many police officers and government officials appear to have either fled or are hiding.

Militants may be retreating from Buner after strict warnings from Islamabad to leave the Buner district.

Militants may be consolidating in Swat Valley.
