McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies and Harvard firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:05 p.m. Saturday September 23, 2017 to a report of a one-vehicle crash in the block of 6500 White Oaks Road.

A 39-year-old Wauconda man died Saturday after the car he was driving went off the road and crashed in a rural area of far northwestern McHenry County.

Matthew D. Grey was pronounced dead at 7:42 p.m. Saturday at the scene of the crash in the block of 6500 White Oaks Road in Harvard

An autopsy determined he died as a result of traumatic positional asphyxia, according to McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said in a news release Monday.

McHenry County sheriff’s police reported that Grey was driving a 2015 Dodge Dart estbound on Hunter Road, west of Harvard, when the crash occurred about 7:05 p.m.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said the Dodge Dart did not stop at a stop sign at Hunter and White Oaks roads and then was driven into a berm west of the intersection. The vehicle went airborne, crashed through a fence, flipped over and landed on the vehicle’s roof.

No other vehicle occupants were in the Dodge Dart.
