The crash victim identity was released of a man killed in a motorcycle crash at Nelson Road and North Avenue and Nelson Road in Antioch. Russell Schultz, a longtime favorite Fox Lake postal carrier, of Antioch man was identified as the man who died about 8:05 p.m. Sunday September 3, 2017 after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into trees near the intersection in Antioch.

Schultz, 57, died of multiple traumatic injuries suffered after a crash at 7:53 p.m., said Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper. The coroner’s office is still awaiting toxicology reports, Cooper said.

Schultz was driving his motorcycle southbound on Nelson Road when he apparently had difficulty during a turn onto North Avenue. He was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The crash is under investigation. The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was on the scene of the fatal motorcycle accident for an extended accident investigation several hours after the crash.

According to his obituary on the Strang Funeral Home website, Schultz enjoyed beekeeping, classic cars and being everybody’s friend.

Schultz attended Antioch Community High School and served in the United States Marine Corps. Schultz was a troop leader for Boy Scout Troop 92 in Antioch and a member of Calvary Christian Church in Lake Villa, and later the CrossView Church in Antioch, an American Evangelical Free Church.

“Russell was known for his jovial nature and was loved by everyone who knew him,” according to his family.

Schultz is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jeannie; three sons, Andrew of Lakewood, CO, Kurtis (Kristine) of Spring Grove, IL, and Louis of Lakewood, CO; a grandson, Kurtis; his brothers, Steve (Beth) of Goodyear, AZ, and Christopher (Monica) of Sugar Grove, IL; two nieces, Amanda and Laura; and a nephew, David.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St., and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, until the funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Strang Funeral Home of Antioch.
