Motorcyclist Killed in Crash with Tree Near North Ave and Nelson Rd, Antioch

Antioch police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:57 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 2017 to a report of a serious motorcycle crash into a tree with the motorcyclist not responsive near North Avenue and Nelson Road.

The man, age 57, was in cardiac arrest at the scene. He was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead. Flight for Life was activated about 8:05 p.m., but was cancelled.

The Antioch-area man, whose identity was not immediately released, was killed in the motorcycle crash Sunday night in Antioch when he was heading southbound on Nelson Road and apparently lost control while turning onto North Avenue. The motorcycle struck trees next to the road.

Antioch police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team were investigating the crash. The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was on the scene of the fatal motorcycle accident for an extended accident investigation.

Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper reported an autopsy for the man was scheduled for Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

A fire engine was hit and damaged by another vehicle that was passing the scene. No injuries were reported from the secondary incident.
