The winning numbers were 6, 7, 16, 23, 26, and the Powerball was 4.
The winner has not immediately come forward, and is likely seeking the advice of a tax accountant. The IRS taxes the winnings at the top income bracket of 39.6%, withholding 25% at payout. The remaining tax due is paid at tax time.
The top prize of $758.7 million is available when winner chooses to take the prize in 30 annual payments. Most winners take a lump sum payment, which amounts to $480.5 million.
Powerball jackpots have passed the $400 million mark two times in 2017. A $448 million prize was claimed in June 2017, and a $435 million jackpot was claimed in February. Mega Millions had a $393 jackpot winner on August 12, 2017.
In January 2016 Powerball topped the $1 billion mark and winning numbers were claimed. The $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot was split three ways. The winning tickets were sold in Tennessee, California and Florida.
Powerball and Mega Millions tickets are available in all but six states — Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada and Utah.
The chance of successfully picking all six numbers is about one in 292 million.
One ticket winner in Illinois won a $2 million prize.
