Amtrak Train Fire Involving Battery Stops Train at Milwaukee Avenue and Kilbourn Ave, Chicago

Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:02 PM Tuesday August 15, 2017 to a report of an Amtrak passenger train fire at Milwaukee Avenue and Kilbourn Chicago, Il. Battalion Chief 7 on upon arrival to the scene reports a conductor states that the fire has been extinguished.

Deputy District Chief 222 reports that the fire is out, and was caused by a battery. The train was stalled with 40 passengers on board. The engine and next two cars were stalled on the bridge directly over Milwaukee Avenue near Kilbourn Avenue in Chicago.

Initially, plans were made for another train to be sent to transfer passengers to the other train. Next plan possibly involved another train engine arriving to move the train.

The final plan implemented involved firefighters helping passengers and their baggage transfer to another train.

Chicago Fire Department reports there were no injuries. All passengers were transferred to another train by 9:46 p.m. and most or all fire/rescue crews cleared the scene by 9:49 p.m.
