Dirty Jobs Host Mike Rowe: Learning a Skill in Demand Negates Minimum Wage Debate

#ad▼

‘Dirty Jobs’ host Mike Rowe gives his take on protests against McDonald’s wages, robots and automation, the need to learn a skill and how they impact the debate over wages.

Is automation about to take over minimum wage jobs. Yes, but Mike Rowe says that learning a skill that is actually in demand, negates the the whole conversation.

Mike Rowe says if you have a skill and that skill is in demand, you can work where you want and write your own ticket. If you don’t, you’re going to have to hope the next negotiation works out, and the next minimum wage position falls favorably in your direction — which strikes me as fatalistic.

Anything we do that knocks the bottom rungs off the ladder that we are all climbing is self-defeating.
