According to Buffalo Grove Police, they responded about 10:20 a.m. to a report that witnesses heard gunshots and breaking glass around 10:20 a.m. at a house on Auburn Lane near Checker Road and Arlington Heights Road. Witnesses also reported seeing a man leave the house and flee the neighborhood in a red sedan. The suspect was described by witnesses as a male/black.
A Buffalo Grove police officer spotted a red Toyota Corolla driving southbound on Arlington Heights Road toward Lake-Cook Road. Police say, the officer activated his lights and siren as the red Toyota Corolla headed westbound on Lake-Cook Road and began to follow the car with the intention of pulling it over, but never got the chance.
A witness near Lake Cook Road and Nichols Road reported seeing a Buffalo Grove marked SUV, with lights and sirens activated, chasing a red vehicle. he heard a loud crash shortly after the vehicles passed Nichols Road and saw that there had been a head-on crash involving the red vehicle and two white vehicles.
Long Grove, Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, and Countryside firefighter/paramedics responded to the scene. First fire units were dispatched at 10:27 a.m. Saturday.
The suspect and driver of the red vehicle was reported in traumatic cardiac arrest at the scene, but was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. There were conflicting reports whether the suspect had died at the hospital, but between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Cook County Sheriff’s Sheriff Sergeant Burke was classifying the crash as a fatal crash.
The man allegedly involved in the domestic disturbance and two women from two separate vehicles involved in the crash were transported to nearby hospitals. One of the other drivers was also transported to Northwest Community, and the third driver was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Lake Barrington.
Buffalo Grove police report their police SUV was about 100 yards behind the red Toyota when it crossed the median and the head-on crash occurred. Buffalo Grove police claim the Buffalo Grove police officer did not see the crash. There is a crest in the road near the crash site, which could have obstructed the view.
Cook County Sheriff’s Police are investigating the crash. A Buffalo Grove Fire Department Battalion Chief, BGFD Chief Barna recognized Arlingtoncardinal.com near the scene and notified police at the scene. Battalion Chief Barna then approached and told this reporter that “Arlington police want you behind the line.” This reporter then replied, “They can tell me themselves.” Arlington Heights police did not approach, but Cook County Sheriff Burke approached and threatened arrest. Fatal Crash During Police Pursuit on Lake Cook Rd West of Nichols Rd, Cook County, Unincorporated Arlington Heights.
Eastbound and westbound Lake-Cook Road was closed between Hicks Road and Arlington Heights Road during rescue and crash investigation. Route 53 was open, but the exit to eastbound Lake Cook Road was closed.
Later police learned that the domestic suspect had smashed through the glass patio door to get in the house. The women told police the the suspect didn’t hit them, and that they didn’t think he was armed with a gun.
Buffalo Grove Police don’t have any evidence the man fired any shots during the disturbance, and had not found a gun as of 4:00 p.m.
