Round Lake Beach firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:20 p.m. Thursday Thursday, April 27, 2017 to a report of a man pinned underneath a pickup truck at the Meijer parking lot, 750 E. Rollins Road.

Police officers were unable to free the man, and he was determined to be already dead.

A preliminary investigation determined that the man was apparently under the truck with a tool when the truck began rolling backwards for an unknown reason. He became trapped him underneath the truck.

The Lake County coroner’s office also responded to the scene, and later released the identity of the man as Justin Cairns. An autopsy on Friday determined that Cairns died of traumatic asphyxia. Toxicology results are pending.
