Barrington Hills police, Barrington Police and Barrington-Countryside FPD firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:37 PM Tuesday to a report of an unknown liquid in a creek near 237 Oak Knoll Road Barrington Hills — just west of Barrington High School.

Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a neighbor put a lime green substance into the outdoor gutter and the liquid traveled east to west in a creek. The substance spill is believed to be more than 5 gallons.

Firefighters were told that three people touched the substance and collected some of the liquid in a bottle. They were advised to leave the bottle outside. There were no reports of any injuries.

It was initially unknown if Flint Creek was involved or a tributary to Flint Creek was involved. The incident is located about 2,000 feet west of Barrington High School, where a track meet was underway. The identity of the substance was not immediately released, and it apparently was not a substance or volume that presented a danger. The wind was also blowing from north to south parallel to the Barrington High School athletic fields and west property line.

Police blocking LOak Knoll Road west of Old Hart Road advised parents that a chemical spill occurred that did not pose a threat at Barrington High School.
