#ad▼

The Spring Grove Fire Protection District responded about 5:45 p.m. Friday to a house fire at 9810 Hunters Lane in Spring Grove, and soon found a person dead in the home’s dining room.

Upon arrival of firefighters, the fire in the 2-story single family home appeared to be a small fire. Firefighters discovered the fire had extended through the first floor into the basement, and to the attic.

The fire burned through part of the first floor, collapsing debris into the basement. The fire also extended to the second floor and attic, where the attic space appeared to show signs of an imminent flashover.

Early in the firefighting operations and during a search of the home, firefighters discovered a body in the first floor dining room. The victim is believed to be a resident of the house.

The McHenry County Coroner was called to the scene, but the identity of the person killed was not immediately released. The Illinois State Fire Marshal was also notified, and the fatal house fire is under investigation. Damage and loss at the home was estimated at $150,000 for the building and $100,000 for the contents.

No neighboring homes were damaged, and no other injuries were reported.

Spring Grove firefighters were assisted by firefighters from neighboring communities via activation of a MABAS Division 20 Box Alarm.
