Wauconda High School Evacuates Students and Staff After Bathroom Bomb Threat, Two Arrested

On February 2, 2017 at 12:37 p.m., Wauconda Police Department was notified by Wauconda Community Unit District 118 of a possible bomb threat at Wauconda High School (WHS), 555 N. Main St. in Wauconda. Upon arrival, officers met with District 118 administration. Officials determined that one student made a written threat and a second student made a verbal threat. WHS was placed on hard lockdown. After further investigation, it was determined that the school should be evacuated. Students and staff were evacuated via District 118 school buses to The Chapel, 25270 Rte. 60 in Grayslake.

Wauconda Police Department, along with Wauconda Fire Department, conducted a search with the faculty of WHS. Bomb detection dogs from Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Great Lakes Naval Base responded to WHS to search the school. After several hours, it was determined the threat was not credible and nothing dangerous or threatening was located in or around the school. No other District 118 schools were affected by this incident.

A number of students were brought to Wauconda Police Department for interviews. Subsequently, one juvenile was charged with Disorderly Conduct and released to their parent. A second juvenile was charged with Felony Disorderly Conduct and will be transported to the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center.
