Glen Ellyn police responded about 9:00 p.m. Saturday November 26, 2016 to the Walmart store, 3S100 Route 53 near Butterfield Road to meet the victim of kidnapping and armed vehicular hijacking.

Police received a report from the victim that two men approached the 36-year-old driver for a ride-sharing company. The man told police he was standing outside his car at an apartment complex at 325 Ramblewood Drive when two male/black offenders in their 20s approached him. One of the men was holding a semi-automatic handgun.

The two suspects were described as …

#1) male/black, age 25, 5’5″ 110 LBS wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and basketball shorts, and carrying the semi-automatic handgun, and

#2) male/black, age 25, 5’8″ 160 LBS with short black hair and a mustache, wearing a dark sweatshirt and black pants.

The offenders forced the victim to drive to several ATMs where they attempted to use his card to withdraw money, police said. The amount of cash taken was unknown at the time of the initial police report.

The offenders then told the victim to drive to the Wal-Mart, where the victim escaped the offenders’ car in the parking lot. The victim was not injured. The offenders and victim apparently arrived at Walmart in both vehicles. The two offenders fled the area in the victim’s gray 2009 Nissan Sentra, and abandoned the car on Sandhurst Circle in Glen Ellyn about one-quarter mile from the location where the offenders first contacted the victim on Ramblewood Drive.

The kidnapping and ATM withdrawal crime method is the the second this year in Glen Ellyn. In August 2016, a Wheaton College student was kidnapped near a Starbucks in downtown Glen Ellyn about 10:00 am. August 26, 2016 and was taken to several ATMs. The victim was forced at gunpoint into the back seat of an SUV and forced to withdraw money from several ATMs before being released uninjured in Chicago about 11:40 p.m.

Police charged Jeremy Jones, 23 of Chicago; Abeet Ramos, 18, of South Elgin, and a juvenile. All three suspects were arrested in September.

Jones is serving a 54-month sentence at Sheridan Correctional Center.

Ramos is in custody in DuPage County Jail and is being held without bond.

Glen Ellyn police urge anyone with information about the most recent kidnapping/robbery to call Glen Ellyn Police Department at 630-469-1187.
