False headlines on social media have scores of people believing news that isn’t true. This week, social media giants Facebook and Google decided to stop the bad presses on their site and go after hoax websites. Jericka Duncan reports.

Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera discusses truth and propaganda.

What Does Fake News Mean?
The discussion of “Fake News” comes to forefront after Google and Facebook were criticized over allowing false information to be disseminated during the US presidential election. Legal and media analyst Lionel of LionelMedia joins RT’s ‘News With Ed’ to give his take. While non-news sources such as Google and Facebook say they are changing their policies, fake news sometimes promoted by mainstream – and actual – news outlets such as CNN and the New York Times also persist. Lionel mentions the example of how America was led into the Iraq war. The outlets that propagate those stories remain above reproach from criticism for journalistic malpractice.

In an effort to halt the spread of “fake news,” Google and Facebook say they are changing their advertising policies.

The latest news is that Facebook is filled with ‘fake news’. Founder Mark Zuckerberg issued this response: ‘Of all the content on Facebook, more than 99 percent of what people see is authentic. Only a very small amount is fake news and hoaxes. The hoaxes that do exist are not limited to one partisan view, or even to politics.’
