As an ongoing commitment to safety the Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO) and the Timber Ridge Therapeutic School has partnered with the Arlington Heights Police Department, the Arlington Heights Fire Department, Northwest Central Dispatch, and the Illinois Office of the Attorney General to hold a Safety Fair for students and families on Thursday, September 15, 2016. The fair will include a variety of educational opportunities for students with disabilities to increase their understanding of safety procedures, along with opportunities for local first responders to gain a greater understanding of the needs of students at Timber Ridge School. Previous years the event has run from 9:15 am – 2:30 pm.

The Safety Fair includes demonstrations by the Arlington Heights Police Department, and will include a K-9 Dog demonstration, a radar gun demonstration, and a tour of the Major Crime Assistance Team (MCAT) vehicle. The Arlington Heights Fire Department will actively involve students in a smoke house demonstration that teaches students how to properly exit a burning building. The Northwest Central Dispatch will help students identify when they should call 911, and representatives from the Illinois Office of the Attorney General, Crimes Against Children Task Force will discuss Internet safety with students and families. A variety of fire and police vehicles and gear will also be on display for safety fair participants to explore.

This is the third Safety Fair NSSEO has held in partnership with area community agencies. The collaborative efforts of staff, Board members, parents, students, and department representatives have contributed to the development of this upcoming event.
