All Dallas Police Department official visual tweets before the shooting and all tweets after the shooting assault on police officers in downtown Dallas just before 9:00 p.m. CT Thursday July 7, 2016.

Following the assault on police officers, Dallas Police Department (@DallasPD) began tweeting at 10:52 p.m. CT to give citizens updates. Dallas police used the Periscope app to provide video of press conferences.

INITIAL TIMELINE
7:16 p.m. Protest begins peacefully
8:00 p.m. El Centro College lockdown (as precaution for protest)
8:59 p.m. Report shots fired, officer down
9:00 p.m. Police report guy with rifle, unknown location
9:05 p.m. Police report “active shooter”
9:18 p.m. Fox News reports 2 police officers shot
9:35 p.m. Confirmed police officer down
9:40 p.m. Confirmed two police officers down

Friday morning, a press conference informed citizens that police officers in approximately 40 police squad cars were assigned to manage the perimeter and nearby traffic in downtown Dallas near the shooting scene.
