Boy, Age 6, Shot in the Chest Near Lyons St and Ashland Ave Near Elnora Smith Park, Evanston

Evanston police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:40 p.m. Saturday to a report of a shooting of a 6-year-old boy near the intersection of Lyons Street and Ashland Avenue near Elnora Smith Park. Police and paramedics arrived to find the boy was shot in the chest. He was transported by Evanston firefighter/paramedics to Level I Trauma Center Evanston Hospital, where his condition was listed as stable, according to Evanston police.

Witnesses, two males fled the scene on foot. Initial investigation indicates the shooter is a black male in his late teens with a dark complexion. He was also described as wearing baseball hat and all black clothing. Evanston police detectives are investigating the shooting.
