A passerby is being praised as a hero for pulling a man that was possibly inebriated from a burning car in Cupertino, California.

Aram Harutyunyan is credited with saving a man’s life after he saw dark smoke rising from a vehicle in the parking lot at Rose Market in Cupertino on June 11, 2016.

As Harutyunyan approached the SUV, he realized there was a semi-conscious man in the vehicle. That’s when he made the decision to pull him out.

The rescue was recorded and uploaded to YouTube by Harutyunyan’s friend, Leo Pekker of San Jose.

Capt. Rick Sung, division commander with the sheriff’s office, said the person in the car was suspected of driving under the influence and had accidentally set his car engine on fire — possibly from revving the engine while unconscious.

The driver, Aman Matoo, was suspect of being highly intoxicated. He said Matoo, 43, of San Jose, who had several prior DUI convictions, refused medical treatment and was transported to the Santa Clara County Main Jail. He was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and two counts of arson. Matoo was held on $50,300 bail. He was released made bail on June 12 after making bail.
