Lombard police and other police agencies chased a silver Pontiac Bonneville Wednesday night starting the chase about 9:47 p.m. attempting to investigate a drug-induced homicide in Lombard.
About 9:47 p.m. Lombard police asked for assistance during a police pursuit on eastbound Interstate 290 near York Road. Speeds were reported as high as 80-90 mph as the police continued on I-290, Lake Shore Drive, westbound on Hollywood, passed Peterson and Clark, passed Devon and Clark, Sheridan and Lawrence, Belmont and Lincoln in the neighborhoods of Edgewater, Rogers Park, and Uptown. The pursuit was terminated by 10:10 pm but observation was continued from a safe distance by police helicopter. The Pontiac Bonneville then returned south to western neighborhoods and suburbs.
After passing Ashland Avenue and Chicago Avenue, a police helicopter pursued the vehicle on to southbound I-55 for a short time, then through streets in Maywood and Melrose Park. The chase also continued on I-290 again, but the chase was fully terminated about 10:58 p.m.
A Chicago police vehicle crashed with a car at Congress and Leavitt in Chicago about 9:54 p.m. Two Chicago police officers were transported to Stroger Hospital, and the driver of the other vehicle was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital. The three injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The suspect’s car was involved in a non-disabling crash at Ashland and Berteau when it was hit by an Illinois State Trooper’s cruiser and crashed into another car. The innocent driver’s Nissan car left the roadway and hit the wall of an apartment building. No injuries were initially reported at the second crash. The apartment building received slight damage to the brick wall and received a broken window. The front end of the innocent driver’s car pushed through the window opening and damaged a ceiling fan to a basement apartment.
The entire chase lasted about 75 minutes before it was completely terminated for public safety reasons near Route 83 and 3rd Avenue in Bensenville.
No suspects were in custody as of midnight Wednesday/Thursday.
