Houston Reporter Steve Campion Helps Rescue Driver from Flood; Heavy Rains Over 1 Foot

As floods slam the Southern plains, one rescue was caught on camera in Houston, as ABC13 Report Steve Campion urged a man to get out his car and swim after the man drove his car into a flooded street. CBSN’s Vladimir Duthiers has more.

Just before a man’s car sank in high water in a viaduct, Houston ABC 13 Reporter Steve Campion yelled to the man, “Dude, you’ve got to get out of the car. You’ve got to get out! Leave the car, swim!”

The man didn’t think the water was that deep. Once the man left the car, the reporter met him half in water that wasn’t as deep as where the car sank. The man was able to walk out of the water with the assistance of Campion, who advised him to watch his footing.

More than a foot of rain deluged the Houston area, inundating homes, shutting down major highways and leaving at least five people dead.
