Homeless Suspect Held in University of Texas Austin Freshman’s Death; Arrest of Meechaiel Criner Following Haruka Weiser Murder

Law enforcement and University of Texas officials talk about the arrest of Meechaiel Criner, the suspect in the murder of UT student Haruka Weiser.

Police credited the people of Austin for helping by submitting tips, and by cooperating with the investigation.

Austin firefighters recalled seeing a person at a trash fire that resembled the suspect later revealed in the surveillance video.

The suspect has been identified as Meechaiel Criner, date of birth June 30, 1998. The suspect was described as a homeless 17-year-old male that possessed a bike and blue duffel bag, and who was sheltered in the area.
