Elephant Road Rage at Holy Festival at Bhagavathi Temple, India

An elephant taking part in Holy festivities at the Bhagavathi Temple in Pulappatta in the south Indian state of Kerala with riders aboard, had no problem tossing vehicles in the air while it went on a wild rampage on Thursday.

The Bhagavathi Temple is one of the wealthiest and most ancient temples in India, but something about a festival this year angered a large adult elephant.

The Thalappoli festival featured a big music-filled procession led by an extravagantly-decorated elephant named Devidasan. The elephant picked up a motorcycle with ease while two mahouts (elephant tenders in southeast Asia) were riding Devidasan. Using his trunk and tusks, the elephant also grappled a van, picked it up, and tossed it. Next he rolled a pickup truck on its side.

It took the mahouts several hours to control the elephant and secure the situation.
