Crying baby orangutan Budi receives loving care after suffering year of neglect. rescued by International Animal Rescue in Indonesia.
Budi is a baby orangutan that was rescued by International Animal Rescue in Indonesia. Before he was rescued and during the first year of his life, Budi was kept in a chicken cage and fed on nothing but condensed milk which was slowly killing him.
On arrival at IAR’s orangutan rescue centre, Budi’s condition was extremely critical, and he was too frail to move or sit up on his own. He was showing signs of severe malnutrition and screaming in pain every time he was moved by the vets. This video shows vet Karmele feeding Budi from a bottle and vet Jaclyn weighing him.
Our team of experts worked around the clock to monitor and treat Budi. He had a very long way to go on the road to recovery and International Animal Rescue appealed for donations towards his treatment and care. He survived.

When rescued baby orangutan Budi first started his physiotherapy it hurt him just to move his arm. However, he made amazing progress everyday and was soon able to cling onto vet Ayu’s hand and move his arms and legs!

Vet Dr Ayu and vet nurse Chacha took Budi into his new day play area and stayed with him while he took his time to explore his new surroundings.
Budi and Jemmi are both rescued orphan orangutans being cared for at our orangutan rescue and rehabilitation centre. Neither of them has met another orangutan since they were taken from their mothers at a very young age …. This video shows them meeting for the very first time and their reaction is amazing.

This introduction is a huge milestone from both Budi and Jemmi but it will take years of preparation before they are ready to be released back into the wild.
