Bees swarmed an Oklahoma Highway Patrol vehicle on Tuesday afternoon south of Oklahoma City. The honeybees had escaped from an overturned truck.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Garvin County Sheriff’s Department had to contend with swarms of bees when a semi-trailer truck hauling more than 100,000 bees in hives crashed, rolled over and spilled crates of hives and bees.
The sheriff’s deputy sitting in a sheriff’s department SUV received only on sting.
A Good Samaritan that pulled the driver from the truck was stung on the lip, on the end of the nose, mouth, the side of the eye and back.
Many of the bees were rounded up by beekeepers that worked into the night, but the remainder of bees that didn’t exit the crates were burned by an intentional fire set to prevent any swarms attacking any additional motorists.
