A French startup company, Kallistem Labroatory, working with a top government lab said it has developed in-vitro human sperm, claiming a breakthrough in infertility treatment sought for more than a decade (translated interview with Marie-Helene Perrard).

In May 2015, Kallistem said it had managed to transform basic male fertility cells, called spermatogonia, into mature sperm in test tubes.

Now Kallistem has released details of the technology known as Artistem®.

Artistem® is an artificial testicle that uses cellular therapy technology which allows germinal stem cells to ‘mature’ and produce, ex vivo (outside the body), fertilizing spermatozoa.
