Authorities in Houston say a woman driving a Buick contributed to the collision that caused a school bus to fall off of an overpass. At least two students died and more people were hurt.

Two high school students were killed and another two students and the bus driver were injured when a Houston Independent School District (HISD) school bus careened off the 610 South Loop on Tuesday morning about 7:00 a.m. The bus was eastbound on I-610 (South Loop East Freeway) en route to Furr High School when the crash occurred.

Mariya Johnson, age 17, was killed at the scene. She was a student at REACH Charter High School, a dropout recovery school on Furr’s campus.

The second victim, Janecia Chatman, age 14, died at Memorial Hermann Hospital. She was also a student at Furr.

Both injured students and the bus driver were transported to area hospitals. High school students and twins Brandon and Lakeshia Williams, who both who also attend REACH, were treated for apparently “non-life threatening injuries,” according to the Houston Police Department.

The bus driver, Louisa Pacheco, was reported in stable condition and was released from the hospital on Tuesday.
