VIDEO: British Airway Boeing 777 Fire; 13 Transported to Hospital

Federal investigators are converging on Las Vegas, to try to determine why the engine of a British Airways 777 caught on fire before take off on Tuesday. Everyone on board evacuated. More than a dozen people were treated for minor injuries.

Passengers aboard an aircraft that ignited before takeoff at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas told reporters the brakes were applied in an emergency stop, then a boom was heard that shook the plane, then there was another boom and the aircraft came to an abrupt stop.

Passengers reported seeing ash on one side and fire on the other side. One passenger reported seeing other passengers grabbing their bags while the 157 passengers and 13 crew members evacuated down emergency chutes.

Pilots reported an engine fire about 4:13 p.m. Tuesday. The fire did not appear to breach the aircraft’s cabin. The fire was reported extinguished by 4:18 p.m. by Clark County firefighters from Airport Fire Station 13.

An engine on a London-bound British Airways jet caught fire Tuesday while the plane was preparing to take off from Las Vegas. Officials say 13 people were taken to local hospitals.
