A Canadian company Thoth Technology is securing a patent for a 12-mile high ‘Space Elevator.’
A Canadian space and defense company, Thoth Technology, has been granted a US patent to build a 12.4-mile elevator tower into the sky. The structure would elevate cargo, and allow spacecrafts to launch of the top. The height would would be almost 25 times taller than Burj Khalifa, the current tallest building in the world in Dubai.
Engineers are skeptical about a the Space Elevator towers capability to handle stress from winds, the compression forces on the tower, torsion forces in twisting winds, the heavy weight effect of ice buildup, and the cost of materials.
Brendan Quine is the inventor, who claims inflatable Kevlar cells will accommodate the weight issue.
