Fatal Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested After License Plate of Pickup Truck Found at Scene at Algonquin Rd and Pennsylvania Ave, Des Plaines

Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:39 PM Monday to a report of a bicyclist down and unresponsive at Algonquin Rd and Pennsylvania Ave Des Plaines, IL . Des Plaines firefighter/paramedics transported a 25-year-old male to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

The patient was identified as Jose Piancante Gomez, and was pronounced dead at 11:07 p.m. Monday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

Des Plaines police discovered a license plate at the scene that registered to United Airlines. After an investigation they were able to locate Morton Grove resident Daniel Wehr, age 54, who admitted to driving a white Ford F-150 pickup truck involved in the hit-and-run in a videotaped admission statement.

Wehr was arrested and charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury or death.
